While America today may not be facing the kind of fundamental issues that dominated the Lincoln-Douglas debates,

Another reason to shudder. The rampant slaughter of innocent babies in the womb, to him, is no big deal. The similarities between abortion and slavery are uncanny.

"Are you actually arguing that they have not believed people can be evil?!?"

I asked you a very simple question: when did Ronald Reagan ever call a political foe "evil"?

When has Dubya done so?

Just some philosophical background: non-personal things/entities are not evil (notwithstanding the leftist view if guns). Evil is predicated of moral agents (i.e., persons). So, even though we often speak abstractly of evil "governments". "political ideologies", etc., we are really referring to beliefs, actions, etc., of moral agents.

Reagan and Bush understand this. You apparently don't.

"First of all, cash from the national parties is never about qualifications, and always about polls."

We're going in circles here. What are polls driven by? By the candidates in the polls, unless you're talking about a poll of Obama vs. an Unamed Republican. But yes I know it's tough for a Republican to win a statewide election in Illinois. It takes a very strong Republican against a weak Democrat. But I'm not so sure that Obama is that strong of a candidate. He's extremely liberal, is he not? Keyes might just be able to portray him as too far left and pull off an upset.

"Again, you have not even made an argument as to WHY it is inconsistent with our own moral values."

First of all, don't be so presumptuous as to speak for everyone.

I've made the argument several times, as have several other people.

You're not listening.

Both Bush and Keyes were in single digits. But then you already knew that.

Look, you haven't a clue about Ill.! At least the out of starters, who were on the California Governor race threads had a fairly good handle on that election. As a matter of fact, most of the out of starters were better at calling that ones, than those who lived in California were.

OTOH, this thread is FILLED with people who not only have EVER lived in Ill.,bit they have NO clue, not a glimmer of an idea, about Ill.and the people who are going to actually vote in this race.

Keyes WILL turn off people in Ill.,he WILL lose miserably, and his lose WILL make Obama's star rise even higher;unfortunately.

"A Chicago dog has Mustard, relish, peppers, sliced tomato, a pickle (cut the long way) and is sprinkled with celery salt. I hope I haven't forgotten anything (onions maybe). But Ketchup (Heinz or otherwise) is a big No-No."

Thanks for the info...here in TN we just pull the pork...add a little mustard and mmmmm...but must say I'll try the Chicago Hotdog mixture and evaluate...my name rest on the results...

Is the GOP going to fund him or hang him out to dry?

If Keyes showed any sign of winning, the RINO leadership would start funding Obama.

Keyes has about as much chance of winning this race,IF he even accepts the proffered crown, which hes has NOT yet done,as I do in being asked to take over the UN!

I don't think Keyes can win, but even if Obama wins, he's gonna come out like a guy that just got pummeled in a barroom brawl.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but we were all against America's "favorite carpetbagger" up in New York not that long ago... As much as I respect and like Dr. Keyes, I don't think this will work.

First of all; it worked for her. Secondly; she didn't break the law and neither will Dr. Keyes. And thirdly; we were against her because she was a "carpetbagger" we called her a carpetbagger because we were against her. I can't speak for everybody but I hated Hitlery long before she ran for the Senate.

I asked you a very simple question: when did Ronald Reagan ever call a political foe "evil"?

You'd have to ask Bush and the Reagans about that. But my question still stands: Why would they HAVE to??? Please read the following VERY carefully:

Non-personal things/entities are not evil (notwithstanding the leftist view if guns). Evil is predicated of moral agents (i.e., persons). So, even though we often speak abstractly of evil "governments". "political ideologies", etc., we are really referring to beliefs, actions, etc., of moral agents. Reagan and Bush understand this.

If you suggest otherwise (as in fact your question does), then you are suggesting that Reagan and Bush were so stupid that they don't understand that things/impersonal entities like, oh, say a chair are evil, rather than people.

Please don't take this too hard, but you might want to get up to speed in philosophy (specifically that branch of philosophy known as ONTOLOGY/METAPHYSICS) before continuing in this line of reasoning.

You are actually arguing that people cannot be evil. Do you believe the Bible teaches this? Please answer that question.
