Attorney: 'It's A Classic Case Of Religious Discrimination'

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida woman was fired from her job after eating "unclean" meat and violating a reported company policy that pork and pork products are not permissible on company premises, according to Local 6 News.

Lina Morales was hired as an administrative assistant at Rising Star -- a Central Florida telecommunications company with strong Muslim ties, Local 6 News reported.

However, 10 months after being hired by Rising Star, religious differences led to her termination.

Morales, who is Catholic, was warned about eating pizza with meat the Muslim faith considered "unclean.," Local 6 News reported. She was then fire for eating a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, according to the report.

"Are you telling me they fired you because you had something with ham on it?" Local 6 News reporter Mike Holfeld asked.

"Yes," Morales said.

She will own this company.

She can make the case that her religious beliefs were denied by the company.

She will own this company.

Neat. Then she can have a company picnic and serve hot dogs and pork rinds.

Local 6 News obtained the termination letter that states she was fired for refusing to comply with company policy that pork and pork products are not permissible on company premises.

I think the company can limit what is permissible on company premises.

Sounds like a job for John Edwards and a way for him to pick up a few bucks.

If it truly is a company policy, she should find another job. Instead, she'll probably take the ridiculous lawsuit route.

Is Florida a "right-to-work" state? If so, then there's probably not much this woman can do legally to get her job back. With notable exceptions, anyone can be fired for pretty much any reason in right-to-work states.

Publicity and the "invisible hand" of the marketplace are the best weapons to use against this discriminatory company. Not one penny of my money would they ever see.

Yes, you are correct.

Otherwise, kosher restaurants could not stay in business.

I had one yesterday, and just might have another today. Our homegrown 'Beefsteak' tomatoes are awesome this year.

Sounds like a job for Pig Blood Man!

Faster than a speeding popsicle truck. More powerful than a Duracell battery. Able to toss a balloon filled with pig blood into any lobby. It's Pig Blood Man!

Pigs may be the secret weapon that removes all rag heads from this country.

Pork ... the other white meat.

I guess so....AOL forbids guns on it's premises! And the right to bear arms is constitutionally protected. The last time I checked, pork wasn't protected in the constitution!

"I think the company can limit what is permissible on company premises."

And I think you're wrong. I'm not a lawyer. So I don't know the legal verbage, but a company can't make rules that go against societal norms. What if the company decided that it would hire only women, and they had to be topless? Or, what if the company decided that any sort of footwear was not permissable. Or, if they decided that any sort of meat was unclean. You can go on and on. Fortunately, in our form of govenment, he who has the gold makes the rules, but the rules have to have some sort of limit.

I think the company can limit what is permissible on company premises.

So a company could mandate that meat was not permissable on Fridays during Lent on company premises?

Or does "separation of church and state" only apply to Judeo-Christian religious customs?
