Here is a list of the Brown & Forman's wines and spirits and household products. I won't be buying/drinking any of them any time soon. Perhaps other FReepers might feel the same way.

I'm sure many out here remember way back when ... when the oil companies told the Government of these United States that they were "multi-national" companies. That they held no alligence to the U.S.A..

Many companies are "multi-national, and want good "family relations' to enable them to sell to, and import their products from overseas.

The problem is that they are, by and large, "peace at any price" Neville Chamberlains.

These corporate entities think only of what is good for them at this present time. They have no alligence to this country, or what is best for Her, and Her people in the long run.

At least he traffics in relatively low-grade booze. This should be a no-problem boycott for me.

My son heard how good Maker's Mark was so he bought some. He didn't care for it. I didn't get to try it. He had noticed that anytime there is a bottle of booze showing in the background of a movie or TV show it was Maker's Mark! We got a magazine from SPEC'S LIQUOR STORES and it rated the best bourbons/whiskeys. sipping whiskeys. We are using that as our shopping guide as we try different ones. Southern Comfort used to be good, but it is just SWEET now, with no other flavors coming through. It used to have a very full flavor. I don't know what is different, the ingredients or the process or the equipment - but it isn't as good as it was a few years ago.

These alcohol products are cheap, undrinkable swill fit only for mixing into sissy coed cocktails.

Maker's Mark is far superior to Jack Daniel's if you like corn whiskey.

Gosling is the best value out there in rums.

Likewise Herradura for tequila.

Great moments in patriotism:

"I regret that I have but one life to give for my country."

"I have nothing to offer you but blood, sweat and tears."

"I won't be chugging Jack Daniels from now till Election Day."

I caught that (at least in the first Spiderman movie). Nathan Osbourne had a bottle near him when he was "talking" to the Green Goblin.

Maker's Mark is really good. A splash over ice is perfect for sipping in the evening with a good book.

By the way, Mark Haines, the CNBC host who interviewed the Brown Forman CEO, left little doubt as to where HE stands on the election. Haines was clearly skeptical about Brown's claims on behalf of Kerry, and touted the achievements of Republicans!

By the way, the CEO of Brown Forman is named "Owsley Brown II." He was an effete elitist type, obviously a descendant of the firm's founder. As someone who owes his wealth to others, he obviously identifies strongly with Kerry.

Nope have to disagree. I live close to the Woodford Reserve Distillery. Best stuff you can drink. The only way to drink it is on ice with a splash of spring water. Once you have tried it you will never go back to Maker's. Sorry I am putting money in Brown Foreman's pocket but I won't give up my Woodford Reserve.

Trust me, its ALWAYS been sweet. Its the spirits equivalent of 10000 gallons of Romilar cough syrup mixed with 1000 tons of cane sugar.

knob creek bourbon.
If you ever wondered what was behind the grimace of Humphrey Bogart or John Wayne as they drank some nonspecific mixture in the movies of yesteryear, Knob Creek Bourbon Whiskey is an edifying experience. The key word in its extended name is "Straight"- this is alcohol first (100 proof) and beverage second. It has a dark, sharp flavor with very little of the sweetness that characterizes bourbons like Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and Old Crow. What sweetness it does possess takes the form of a subdued, almost smoky syrup-like undertone.

Buy Knob Creek Bourbon.

There is something refreshing about the flavor of Knob Creek Bourbon - in the way that standing out in the freezing cold until half of you burns and the other half is numb is refreshing. Even Wild Turkey and Old Grandad are not the trial by fire that Knob Creek is. To the less experienced bourbon drinker, Knob Creek burns in such a way that the drinker is torn between being proud of having swallowed it and the urge to immediately wipe the taste from memory. The flavor reminds you of the very pain that alcohol supposedly undoes, elusive to the degree it is intense, unremitting...It is a fine bourbon for the "man on a mission" when that mission is to get drunk via a merciless and honest (for aren't all merciless things ultimately honest) bourbon. Knob Creek had a brief advertising campaign a year or so ago. It had no laughing, socializing people in it. No indication is made of the of the goodtime possibilities of this drink. The ads consisted of the label, blown up to ad size. I realize now that this was the closest I have come in my short life to truth in advertising. The reason is this, Knob Creek is a bourbon of reckoning.

Yes it has always been sweet, but gone are all the overtones and undertones of oranges, etc. It used to have more flavor. Maybe they are making it in too HUGE of batches now. I am trying small batch whiskeys now and they have a lot more flavor. SC has always been too sweet, you are right. (At 53 I have tried them all)

Knob Creek is great just splashed over ice, too. I will have to try some Maker's Mark. I guess I haven't tried ONE of them.

I admit that I am biased against SC - it was my first drunk and first hangover (at 14, filched and downed an entire bottle from my older brother's party). Horrid, horrid stuff.
