Dear Mr. Keyes,
Please run for Il senate. I am only 13 so I can't vote for you, but I would be proud to work on your campaign. I have lots of friends who will help too. We live in a small farming community, and I can think of no one else who better represents our values. We are all praying for you.

PLEASE come to Illinois and save the Grand Old Party! We need you to have a voice in the Senate!! You CAN win here. I will do all I can to help your candidacy. I'd also like to put in a suggestion -- we'd like you to live in central Illinois, not Chicagoland, if possible!

Mr. Keyes I have worked for many Republicans in statewide races: Salvi, Fitzgerald, Lauzen. I would consider it a priveledge to work to get you elected as our senator. If God gives you the go-ahead, I am there for you in Rockford. I called in to my state central committeeman and told him (Syverson) to support you. Like someone else mentioned, you could get an equal billing in the Republican convention. The Illinois race would be a center of attention.

Bill Clinton missed a certain opportunity to win a Senate seat in 2002 when Torricelli withdrew his reelection bid. If Keyes, who has never lived in Illinois can move there and run with less than 90 days before the election, there are no teeth in the residency requirements for Senate candidates.
It would be really slick if Mr. Keyes could be scheduled to speak at the Republican convention in prime time!!! It would be a win-win for all Republicans.
Didn't Hillary do this in New York? Whats the difference?
I thought they wanted Ditka.
Ditka said no.
Wanna move?
Actually he only has to be a legal resident by Nov. 2,2004.
That is the law --- it does show you how pathetic the Republic party has become in Illinois. Not one candidate who has a chance to beat Obama Barak -- I'd sure love to see the debate between Dr. Keyes and Obama....
Keyes is too belligerent and too conservative for IL. IL needs a center-right candidate, not a RINO, but not a bible-thumper either.
Ditka's wife said she would divorce him if he ran.
"Actually he only has to be a legal resident by Nov. 2,2004."
Same deal with Hillary in NY state, you only have to reside thereon election day. But as long as this applies to all I have no problem with it.
Obama seems to be a lock, and from what I'm hearing his speech at the dem convention was a breath of fesh air. Obviously Ryan and the pubbies let each other down. Does Keyes want to be a part of all this, and play loser, I doubt it.
Keyes doesn't live in Illinois. Why on earth would Illinois Republicans subject themselves to "carpetbagger" accusations?
Keyes doesn't live in Illinois. I think it's disingenous of the Illinois Republicans to wave the bloody shirt to anybody with a pulse to run for Senate there.
As an Illinois conservative, I would love to see Alan Keyes run for the senate.
Yes, it does show how pathetic Illinois Republicans have become that they can't find a state resident to run. Yes, his name has likely only come up because of Obama on the (D) side.
BUT...Keyes on the (R) ticket will force the issues into the race rather than letting the knee-jerk voters put Obama in by acclaimation. Keyes is a great speaker, and an articluate advocate for true conservative principles. He is perhaps the best advocate for the unborn we have in the political arena.
Keyes on the ticket will prevent me from "undervoting" or from voting Libertarian.
i agree with you, he'll just loose. again. hes not gonna beat obama, i think ditka would have beat him, but that was our last chance. dont know what the IL-GOP could possibly do to win.
Obama is a sure winner so candidates with a future like Oberweiss and Rauschenberger want no part of a race where they have no chance.
The Illinois GOP has become the equivalent of Britain's Official Monster Raving Loony Party.
If the Hildebeast can be the Senator from New Yawk, Alan Keyes can do the same in Illinois. He would make a fine addition to the Senate, and would provide a voice for a segment of the black community that is too often ignored.
