Conservatives see something angelic in George Bush ...

I don't see anything angelic, but I do think he has special powers ...

after he said the orders to torture in Iraq couldn't have possibly come from the top

"Orders to torture"? Is this a joke. Abu Ghraib was "Guards Gone Wild", nothing more.

When did GW claim "to have witnessed the first plane hit the WTC live on TV?" I don't believe this, and think Perlstein is lying. If he can document this absurd claim(after all, NO ONE witnessed the first plane LIVE ON TV), I'll take it back, but so far he is just another girlie boy lying liberal.

I can believe that GW made one of his offhand comments and characterized it as watching the plane hit, but it would be beneath him to attempt a democrap-type embellishment, and Perlstein knows it.

Pissant.

Pure nonsense. He has everything wrong, from this website's various views of GWB to the place of the the rule of law, and not of men, in the hearts of conservatives.

...I think what he mostly lacks is an understanding of God.....

Could be. Another one of the liberals that cannot possibly see what we see in President George Bush. Isn't it amazing. All of the things we value in him - they cannot even see.

He is one of us, he has the same values as we do, he is from Texas and is a Texan. He is trustworthy and honorable - another fact they cannot comprehend. I could not think of anyone else I would trust with my country more than the Bush team.

"bla, bla, bla... because no one can be trusted to be fundamentally decent, which was why the Constitution established a government of laws, not personalities."

"If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary . . . "

Conservatives see something angelic in George Bush. That's why they excuse, repress, and rationalize away so much.

And that is why conservatism is verging on becoming an un-American creed.

I asked in the discussion this afternoon if Perlstein was in favor of inforcing the law agains Mr. Kerry for conspiracy to assasinate United States Senators. I got no reply.

Excerpt: "Senator Kerry of Massachusetts yesterday retreated from his earlier steadfast denials that he attended a meeting of Vietnam Veterans Against the War at which a plan to assassinate U.S. Senators was debated.

The reversal came as new evidence, including reports from FBI informants, emerged that contradicted Mr. Kerry’s previous statements about the gathering, which was held in Kansas City, Mo. in November 1971.

Kerry Knew!

Newsmax

Excerpt: "A few weeks later, Bogdan Dzakovic - former FAA chief of the national airport-security covert Red Team (which conducted special ops in aviation-security matters) - was asked to hand-deliver a videotape to Jamie Wise, a staff person in Kerry's office. He told Wise that the film depicted the ease with which undercover operatives had successfully broken through Logan's security shields with potentially deadly weapons. Not once but 10 times!"

Worldnetdaily

Excerpt: "WASHINGTON - A third federal aviation-security agent, one still with the government, has stepped forward to say he also warned Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry about security lapses at Boston's Logan International Airport before the 9-11 hijackings there.

More!

Excerpt: Jon Leiberman, the Washington bureau chief of Sinclair NewsCentral, reported that on May 7, retired Federal Aviation Administration agent Brian Sullivan wrote Mr. Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat, a letter saying the report was just 'the tip of the iceberg' in security problems at the senator's hometown airport.

Mr. Sullivan's letter read in part: 'with the concept of Jihad, do you think it would be difficult for a determined terrorist to get on a plane and destroy himself and all other passengers? ... think what the result would be of a coordinated attack which took down several domestic flights on the same day. The problem is that with our current screening system, this is more than possible. Given time, considering current threats, it is almost likely.'

The two planes that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11 both took off from Logan Airport, reported the Washington Times.

I'm sure Bush has far better things to do than lie about seeing the first airplane hit the building. I've seen it many, many times also. Besides, if he did say that - so what? Who cares except a dem desperate to shred everything our President does, says, thinks.

inforce = enforce
agains = against
assasinate = assassinate

note to myself, use spell check, even when I'm mad and in a hurry.

"...what he thinks of the Federalists' most famous message: that the genius of the Constitution they were defending was that you needn't base your faith in the country on the fundamental decency of an individual, because no one can be trusted to be fundamentally decent, which was why the Constitution established a government of laws, not personalities."

I'd like to see where Perlstein was during the Clinton administration when, for the typical Village Voice reader, the cult of personality reigned supreme.

Plus, I hate it when liberals prattle on about a constitution they only care about when it lets them trash religion or get an abortion.

Sorry I missed the excitement. We've spoken before, as you may recall. This one is really pretty silly, you know - I'm thinking your microscope may need a slightly cleaner objective lens. When your instrument is that dirty all you see is what's on it, and not what you're supposed to be looking at. Which would be us. So, tell me again what it is you think you're seeing...is it truth or is it residue?

Well, I have made my comment, and I am going to a more worthwhile thread. I would bet cash money this whole thread will be printed in the Village Voice or some other leftist publication, complete with smarmy comments, lies, and mockery of our grammar and spelling errors (of which I just made a few in my haste to reply).

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, Jordan. Well, Jordan, you're not going to believe what state I was in when I heard about the terrorist attack. I was in Florida. And my Chief of Staff, Andy Card -- actually, I was in a classroom talking about a reading program that works. I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower -- the TV was obviously on. And I used to fly, myself, and I said, well, there's one terrible pilot. I said, it must have been a horrible accident.

But I was whisked off there, I didn't have much time to think about it. And I was sitting in the classroom, and Andy Card, my Chief of Staff, who is sitting over here, walked in and said, "A second plane has hit the tower, America is under attack."

after he insisted Bush couldn't have been lying when he claimed to have witnessed the first plane hit the World Trade Center live on TV Bush NEVER said that...he said he was TOLD about it.....I HATE LIARS!!!

Me too, and it's actually a little worse than than that... let me see if I can locate the relevant quotes...

...OK, here we get started-- I noticed this last night, but just didn't feel like "teaching a pig to sing" and arguing with Perlstein, who, to his credit, remained civil...

First relevant quote:

To: Nakatu X Oh, what the hell. I won't wait. Worst lie: After the September 11 attacks, the EPA told New Yorkers it was safe to live and work near Ground Zero. It turns out that under White House pressure, the EPA lied about the data it had and omitted important information about the quality of the air and what New Yorkers needed to do to stay healthy. 706 posted on 08/03/2004 7:16:39 PM EDT by Perlstein

The above quote was in response to this:

To: Perlstein I have 3 questions. 1. Can you post, verbatim, what you consider to be Bush's worst lie? 2. Do you agree it is an important thing to be popular among the world/international community? (My boyfriend is a liberal and he thinks that it's sooooo important to be a popular, I want to confirm this with you.) 3. Do you agree that the quickest way to be popular among the international community is to turn Israel into a glass parking lot? 134 posted on 08/03/2004 3:45:52 PM EDT by Nakatu X

Here's the problem I have with that-- whatever the White House did or did not do to pressure the EPA, it is not the same thing as the President telling a direct, blunt lie to the American people.

Perlstein seems to suffer from the "Great White Father" delusion-- that the President is some sort of all-seeing and controlling deity who micromanages every aspect of the Federal government- rather than being the head of the Executive Branch, which is really more like being the CEO of a large corporation.

Note to Perlstein- I owned and operated small businesses in years past- yes, I was a dreaded Capitalist- and while I had to assume the responsibility for the acts and words of everyone under me, I certainly could not control their every utterance- God help me if I tried... it's still a free country. At least so far...

first plane hit the World Trade Center live on TV

The first plane hitting the World Trade Center was not on live tv. The second was.

It was only later that they were able to come up with some video of the first.
