Sorry for the vanity post, but I had too.
I read a letter to my local paper this morning and had to respond to this..hem fine American
His letter.
As we approach the anniversary of 9/11. I'm afraid we shall reach another 9/11 before that date.
911 of our finest young men and women will have died in Iraq, and more than 5,000 have been wounded.
They might not be related to you, but they are like sons and daughters to me.
No matter what yourpolitical beliefs are, they must know they have all suffered and died without just cause.
Could you look their mothers in the eye and say otherwise?
I ask that you think of this when you vote in November.
Here's what I wrote in response.
John Whalen asked a question in his letter, Unjust war in Iraq. Printed Aug 3, 2004. The question Mr. Whalen asks is "Could you look their mothers in the eye and say otherwise?" Referring to his notion that "you must know they have all suffered and died without just cause."
What makes this cause just? Several things come to mind. The fact that from the end of the first gulf war our pilots were being shot at almost daily. The fact that sadam gassed the Kurds killing several thousand people, women and children were hardest hit. The fact that Sadam never fully complied with any United Nations resolutions. The fact that we lost almost 3,000 Americans in just a few hours. And I can go on and on.
To answer Mr. Whalen question, can I look a mother in the eyes. My answer is. I already have. I have had to look a wife, mother, father, brother, aunts, uncles, and dear friends in the eyes and tell them that Adam did not die in vain. That I believe our cause is just, that we will win the day.
You see Mr. Whalen, Adam was my nephew. He was killed on April 29th of this year in Iraq when his Hummer was hit with an RPG. Adam died doing what honorable men do, defending people who can't defend themselves.
Our family's thoughts are always on Iraq. Not because of Adam, because he's home. But because of our other family member still serving in Iraq, My nephew Chris. And dear friends who are getting ready to deploy for the first time, and one very special young man, Pete Southerland.
Pete was wounded during a battle on April 3, 2004. During the battle my nephew took actions that saved his and several others lives. Pete will be going back to Iraq on the 19th of this month to be with his unit. Here is a honorable young man who having been wounded still knows our cause is just, and we will win the day.
Mr. Whalen, it is actions like these, by honorable young men and women that make it possible for people like you to ask questions, or make insane comments. Think of this when you vote in November. If the young men and women who are doing the heavy lifting think the cause is just, wouldn't they know best?
Dave Stacy
Proud Uncle of SGT. Adam Estep and SP4 Christopher Estep.
Brentwood.
This letter needs to be read (over and over) to the likes of Michael Moore, John Kerry and every other dopey leftist nitwit.
Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss, and my prayers for Chris and Pete's safe and swift return.
A 10 for glaseatr, there is no number large enough for Adam and Chris.
How dare these Democrats say those loved ones died "without just cause"? And to do it for raw political advantage at that.
Who will go to war in the future if one political side or another will make the case that "the cause wasn't just"?
It's not PC to accuse people of treason. But that's what it is. It damages the current and future ability of the country to raise an army to make that kind of argument after the country has committed itself to war.
Dissent is great, BEFORE the battle is joined. Dissent afterward is treason.
So sorry for your loss. A family like yours is what makes America. God bless.
Your reply hit straight to the heart. Thank you for your courage and honor.
Brava!
Wham! You nailed it.
You have my condolences.
Now, now, lets not bring the French into this discussion...
I thank God everyday that these brave men are willing to fight and die in my stead. They are the only ones standing between us and the evil that would destroy us. We owe them all a debt of gratitude that we can never repay.
Lord, receive now your faithful servant Adam, and grant him his just reward in heaven. In Jesus' name I pray.
Mr. Stacy,
No matter what the future holds, Adam HAS given his life for a just cause. The left can spin it all they want to but the fact of the matter is, a tyranical dictator is gone, and many people are alive today because of it. The resolve, skill and bravery of men and women like Adam, have caused the world to realize what a force they will be dealing with should they try to bring us harm. We took the battle to the aggressor, the world saw our awesome might, and are awestrucked, knowing full well that they don't have to worry about our strength, because it will be that strength that will keep them safe from the same kind of evil that harmed us. Adam, and all the other heroes who passed HAVE made the world safer.
I already knew the F'n French won't - and good riddance to 'em.
LOL!
By the way, what was post44?
What did I just miss?
No idea...
Those who think this sacrifice has been made in vain couldn't be farther from the truth.
I'm sorry for your loss. This is a beautiful post! Very well said. These people have to ask themselves the same question. Will they have the guts to look at the mother, of somebody who died in Iraq in the eye, and say: Your son died for nothing. He was a loser.
Those who fight in Iraq are honorable and is fighting a just cause. Their strength comes from this moral certainty. Those on the other side are driven by hypocrisy.
