Ridge of high pressure over Texas to blame

T hat sweat dripping from your brow, that car that feels more like an oven, that short walk that leaves you gulping water -- if you aren't already used to it, consider this: Austin is about to have its hottest week so far this summer.
Forecasters expect highs of about 100 degrees for the next several days, with heat indexes of up to 108.
Grab the water bottle and sunscreen, they recommend.
"It's going to be hot," said Bob Rose, a meteorologist for the Lower Colorado River Authority.
Despite this week's oven-like conditions, Austin hasn't yet been hit by heat waves similar to those of past summers. The city has endured only one 100-degree day so far: Memorial Day, by Camp Mabry's reading.
Rose said that late July and early August typically are the hottest and that temperatures near 100 aren't unusual.
The relief this year from soaring temperatures has kept water and energy consumption lower than usual, and officials said they aren't worried about systems getting taxed this week.
"We expect to see usage go up, but we really aren't even watching with much concern," said Laurie Lentz of Austin's water and wastewater department.
Rose said a large ridge of high pressure has shifted east over Texas and is responsible for this week's heat. Monday's highs were 97 at Camp Mabry and 96 at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
There's only a slight chance of rain until the weekend, when a cool front could increase the possibility and cause temperatures to dip 5 degrees or so.
Texas heat wave ping.
Here in southern NH, it's been a cool summer. I've only had to turn our house's AC on four or five times this whole summer. So much for global warming, huh?
Yesterday here in the San Francisco Bay Area we didn't make it above 65'. Normally where I live it would be 83' so it was quite cool and I could have run the heat because the house was cold. I haven't run the air-conditioner since February when it was in the mid-90's for a week. When the heat wave hit that's all I heard was; GLOBAL WARMING,GLOBAL WARMING,GLOBAL WARMING,GLOBAL WARMING. I have a liberal whacko neighbor who is sure that most of California will be under water very soon due to the polar ice caps melting.
That said I can't imagine why we haven't seen more "Global Warming" warnings. When we have heat waves it makes the news and when it gets unseasonablly cold it makes the news because they say that these variation are due to -- YES -- GOLBAL WARMING.
They expect our 2nd 100+ degree day here. But considering its Aug 3rd, thats pretty good to only have 2 so far.
come on fall! And thank GOD for Ac.

Yesterday, I left my lunch in the car(two diet choc bars, a couple of cheese sticks and and ind container of ranch dressing) When I remembered , I expected the choc to be melted but I had liquid cheese sticks and the foil on the dressing too hot to touch and the dressing bubbling. :')
And all over this scalded state, Texas boys were out at their first football practices yesterday...totally insane. But hey, Iraq doesn't seem so hot if you've been through football drills when the heat index is 117, as it was in some places yesterday.
What about all the rain you-all got last week they said like 13 inches??
This an article in the Austin paper today. I heard about this yesterday, and had to read about it tday. May post the article later.
LOL, I left my car at the airport here in St. Louis once and it was so hot it melted the adhesive that holds on the rear view mirror.
You know you are in a Texas heatwave when:
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes out of both taps and you can make instant sun tea.
You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a bit chilly.
You discover that it really takes only 2 fingers to drive your car.
You discover that you can get a great sunburn through your car window.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m. -- before work.
Your biggest fear is, "What if I get in an accident, get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"?
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
The potatoes cook underground and all you have to do to have lunch is to pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.
Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard boiled eggs.
The cows are giving evaporated milk.
The trees are whistlin' for the dogs to come on by.
A sad Texan once prayed, "I wish it would rain - not so much for me,cuz I've seen it, but for my poor 7-year old who don't know what it is."
Out here in the Palm Springs area, we tend to get those fabric slipover thingies for the steering wheel; but I still keep a handtowel handy to toss over the shifter on the console to keep it touchable.
I think there's a reason why something like 70% of the cars here in the desert are white! I've seen people approach their dark colored cars and be unable to touch the door handles long enough to get in - they tend to untuck a bit of their shirts to create enough of a hot pad to get inside the car...
We've been pretty lucky before this week. I knew it was gonna be a hot week when the heat index, Sunday at 10pm, was 102 degrees! My a/c is working overtime!
Too bad the weather won't drive out the leftists!
My plastic cover broke off my seat belt latch, exposing only metal. I have to grab that part to snap into the other latch. Ive taught myself to do it REAL quick!
I had a black camaro one summer that had no AC. Never again will I own a black car.
I can't think why people leave their children in locked cars for even a few minutes. There was a story of a policeman in Dallas or Ft. Worth who left his K-9 partner in a locked patrol car and it also died. People don't realize that the temps inside a locked car can reach 160 F within half an hour or so. That is the temp for a medium grilled steak or a hamburger patty.
Here's in D.C. it's been unusually cool, and it seems like it's rained every day for about a month now.
Here's my current conditions in Corpus Christi.
