Lt. Kerry Runs for President
Wall Street Journal | August 3, 2004 | Brendan Miniter

Does the Democrat really have a shot at the military vote?

Give John Kerry his due for taking aim at a key Republican constituency: the military and military families. If a prime time salute, a convention hall full of flag wavers and his own "Band of Brothers" were enough, Mr. Kerry might have sliced a core voting bloc away from President Bush.

I was driving around the DC beltway yesterday, and saw a cherokee with a Viet Vet for Kerry sticker, with a US MARINE insignia adjacent. I wanted to pull the guy over, and ask him who he was pretending to be!

The author of this article is playing on both side of the issue, like Kerry himself.

Kerry will win 35% of the military and Vets votes and no more, same as Al Gore.

99% of our military knows what happens when we get a rat in office... goodbye pay raises that help cover cost of living adjustments. Former service or not

Mr. Kerry, please don't think about it... Our military votes belong to our CINC like it or not. As a matter of fact, why don't you go read your UCMJ articles on disrespect to the president and while you're at it, why don't you go visit Iraq for a few weeks, I know some real nice places you should stay for a week or two, like Fallujah, the Sunni Triangle, etc... I'm sure your friends would be happy to see you.

My son with the 101st has a typical 'colorful' military way of expressing his assessment of Kerry's chances being less than positive.

Please will someone with detective skills investigate the "band of brothers"? I know the one guy who spoke is a genuine believer, but it is hard to believe in the other ones.

Funny you should point this out. I was behind a car a week or so ago that had a bumper sticker which read ..."Proud Veteran, Ashamed of Bush". I too, would have liked to pull this guy over and asked him what his serial number was when he served. I think the odds are in my favor that he wouldn't have had any idea what I was talking about because I have this feeling that more than half of these "Vets supporting Kerry" have never served a day in their lives. They probably pass those bumper stickers out at Teacher's Union meetings.

Kerry can parade his handfuls of vets and portray them (and probably believe) that they represent much more than the miserable handful that they are.

Bush will have scores more who are more enthusiastic. ANyone possibly swayed by Kerry's shameful display will be swayed right back.

Anyone remember the reaction in Iraq when Bush showed up for Thanksgiving dinner?

Welcome to FR Niks. Articles like these may give Kerry supporters some hope re veterans, but the reality is much different. GWB holds, according to the polls, a 47% to 41% lead. 41% will be Kerry's high water mark once the American people learn more about Kerry's treasonous antiwar activities with the radical VVAW and association with rabble rousers like Jane Fonda and Ramsey Clark.

Lt Kerry's service in Vietnam was less than one semester of ROTC in college. Subtracting time off for staged photo ops, and writing his own applications for medals, it is even less.

I have never met a real combat vet who struts his stuff around like Kerry does. I have met some "wannabe's" doing that. Something does not add up. I think the bulk of his crew and entire chain of command explain it well.

I have two "Vietnam Vets Against John Kerry" stickers on my truck.

By the way, REMF's came under fire too. I've got the hearing loss to prove it.

The other day I saw a biker on his Harley and on the back of his helmet was a sticker that said 'Vietnam Vet against Kerry'.

And this just outside of Seattle. It made my day.

Thanks for the welcome! You guys are great! I read that the vet vote is about 8 points difference with GWB getting the higher percentage. I was wondering why Kerry would get any military or ex-military votes and this is probably the answer. The regular military has a different view of the Iraq mission than the Guard or the reserves, I guess. My husband (who spent 10 years in the Army) and I are BIG Bush supporters and so are our military friends.

"Proud Veteran, Ashamed of Bush". Probably a doper and a category 5 draftee. One of Kerry's band of VVAW.

One would have to question the integrity and mental stability of the so called band of brothers supporting kerry. Kerry abandoned his men in Viet Nam, with his quickie three. K-boy then returned to the US and lied about his so called witnessed atrocities. Kerry is a flake who might garner 10% of the military vote ie; the fags/lesies, the malcontents and the former street gang members. Scary Kerry, "President Bush," is going to bury you in November. Let's Roll!!! (A Proud Veteran)
