Bush: The Missing Years [W as 007?]
GQ Magazine ^ | August 2004 | Jason Gay

Posted on 08/02/2004 9:23:46 PM PDT by Ichneumon

I can't post the article or excerpts because of copyright concerns, but the latest issue of GQ magazine has a bizarre article claiming that George W. Bush was actually working for the government in a James Bond sort of role during his "missing" years in the National Guard... Check the link.

Personally, I think this reads like something from the National Lampoon, and I kept checking the issue date to make sure it wasn't the April issue. Every paragraph or two there's something totally off the wall, like Bush teaching bodyguards how to fire machineguns while waterskiing in tuxedos, and being the driver for the Watergate break-in... Even though the article claims this is the result of the work of investigative reporters and such, I think it's best to consider this pure satire -- perhaps to see how many Bush supporters fall for it. But hey, it's a fun read.

I wouldn't even call it satire... it's rubbish.

Agreed. It's just a lame attempt to make Bush look bad.

Did you read it in 2 minutes, or are you just presuming? It's actually pretty funny, and doesn't run down Bush. Even the "driver for the Watergate break-in" part was described as the group being misled into thinking they were bugging the offices of some foreign agents. If anything, it makes Bush out to be a James Bond, doing patriotic work for his government. It's goofy, but not an attack.

Well, if they want to squash it, fine, but I figured people could use a chuckle.

I clicked the link but never got to the article. I was slammed by pop ups. I had to re-boot. Some diet add took up a corner and I couldn't get to the X to close it out.

Just allow me to daydream about W as a James Bond character. Step aside young Sean Connery, let a real man borrow your tux. Sighhhhh.

Odd, I just tried it myself, and it works fine, even after I turned off my pop-up blockers. Do you have this problem often? Some "adware" may have gotten installed into your browser.

The article was pulled for copyright reasons, the same reason none of it is posted to this thread. At least that was the reason given on the thread-pulled page. Was the poster "adiosed"?

The article is fun to read and not anti-Bush that I saw.

Maybe it's just my computer. Too bad. I really wanted to read the article. It sounded funny. It doesn't happen with FR but when I open other webbs, sometimes. I'm supposed to have a block. I'll see if my husband will look at it tomorrow. I just get annoyed at the ones you can't close. I don't know if that is where they land or done intentionally. :')

This has a tinge of Forrest Gump to it.

Good fiction. Fun to read.

Funny stuff! My guess is that it's all true except for the part about Pinky Birhman defacing penises.

Hmm. Wonder if GWB ever worked with Chuck Barris

After reading the first 4 pages (amusing, and somewhat off-the-wall at times) I couldn't get anything but a sign-up page.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Amusing and somewhat Walter Mitty-ish. Yeah, right, GWB was more influential in GHWB's career that vice-versa could have been. I'm still smiling.

PLEASE, for the sake of humanity, re-elect Bush-Cheney!

It's in the current issue of GQ (with Halle Berry on the cover), you can always check it out at the magazine rack the next time you're at the store, that's where I first encountered it.
