"Are you serious??? There is a national tournament for T-Ball!!!!"

Ahhhh, yeah, I'm "serious" they lost the final game of their county (Brown, southern Ohio) tourny Monday night, 8 - 2.

[T]he sox owner sold Babe's contract to the Yanks so that he could fund a musical, 'No No, Nannette'....
The musical dimension to the Curse is certainly a curious one ...
Reverse the curse
Sunken piano could be music to Red Sox fans' ears

BOSTON (AP) -- Red Sox fans will go to any depths to break the Curse of the Bambino.

On Saturday, a group went to the bottom of a suburban Boston pond in search of Babe Ruth's piano, which, the story goes, was tossed into the water by the slugger in 1918....

The search is sponsored by the Restoration Project ...

Ok, someone tell me if Clemens is a Democrat or Republican? The official did good kicking his puerile butt off the premises.

Sad to say, he's an outspoken Republican. :(

I seem to have posted the wrong link. Here's the right one for Reverse the curse.

I don't know about a rule like that. It seems to me that saying something like "looked pretty good to me ump" or "you missed that one blue" are within the bounds of acceptable behavior-so long as you aren't abusive.

I've umped before and I've been at little league games where fans got completely out of hand-at a football game once I saw a parent go after a referee with a folding lawn chair-but zero tolerance rules strike me as unthinkingly stupid.

I used to hate Clemens for what he did to Mike Piazza, but that hate faded when I saw photo's of Clemens in Iraq with our troops. Clemens is a hot head for sure, and it doesn't excuse his behavior at his son's game, but I certainly don't hate him anymore.

Fair enough - his good deeds should be considered along with his bad.

I can't see how the sox are better off without him. So cabrerra is a better fielder - so what - he lost the game yesterday with his error. He hit a home run too - yee haw. He has what 5 this year? That's the same as nomar who's only played 35 games.

I've heard people say that pitching and field win championships - that is crap. Championships are won by about 40% pitching 35% hitting 15% coching and 10% fielding. The sox wouldn't have made half the errors they have if they had been given some infield outfiled practice since march.
By adding cabrerra and Mientkiewicz they are effectively taking 2 big bats out of the lineup. Now pitchers can pitch around Manny and Ortiz without having to worry about facing Nomar. Also, Millar who is batting .300 and has had a stroke of power over the last month will get limited run because of Mientkiewicz.
The sox are uninspired. i think Francoma has a lot to do with that, now the one thing they do better than pretty much any other team - hit - is being marginalized.
Have you seen the players being interviewed? Non seem happy about it. they are trying to be positive, but when you have guys telling the press "We'll have to wait and see" (Damon) if the deal makes the team better - you know it is not good.

I think dealing Nomar had a lot more to do with personal feelings upstairs then it did with anything else. It isn't so much that they traded him, it is what they got in return - 3 guys without a batting average over .250. the deal is a joke and it is the end of the team this year.

They have 55 games left. They'll be lucky to win 25.

Oh, for crying out loud. This (mild) stuff goes on all the time at games like this. Plus, umpires are generally poor at this level.

I would agree with you that it was a management failure that NoMas was allowed to sit and sulk for so long, to the detriment of the team. They were completely unable to deal with their sullen star. A better management team would have taken NoMas aside and corrected his behavior, one way or the other. The Bosox were unable to do so, leaving a trade as the only option.

That said, they were not going to trade the management structure, so dealing NoMas was the way to go...

I've seen way to many parents act far worse than Clemens....not excusing his behavior, just noting parents are idiot's on occasion when their kids are involved.

Our little league has a no tolerance rule on bad fan behavior. If a parent yells at the umpire, the game is stopped until that parent leaves the field. If he/she doesn't leave, then the game is forfeited.

I've long thought there ought to be two rules for Little League (and all youth baseball):

1. You can't coach your own kid, and

2. No parents are allowed at the games.

For God's sake, just let the kids enjoy playing baseball.

You've got plenty of things to ponder if you're wondering about bad RedSox trades. How many Cy Youngs did Clemens win AFTER he was traded from Beantown? Was it three or four?

Spitting on umpires goes on in kids' leagues? I doubt that, seriously.

Plus, umpires are generally poor at this level.

Which Clemens should keep in mind before embarrassing himself in front of his own kid.

What kind of example did he set by spitting on an umpire? He would have been suspended for ten games in the NL, and likely lost thousands of dollars for acting in this way in his own job.

He may be a Hall of Fame pitcher, but he's a World Class jerk.

Agreed. Clemens is a total jerk and the only good thing about the All Star Game was watching God embarrass him royally.

Everybody knows you have to be playing in the game to be allowed to spit on umps (sarc). Honestly, I'll bet he was yelling at ump and the seeds were flying out of his mouth and everybody's making a big deal about it.

I don't have any facts beyond those in the story, but if he was simply a spectator up in the stands he couldn't have normally gotten close enough to spit seeds, intentionally or not, on the ump. If he were the manager of the team, I might agree with you. But if he came down from the stands to argue with the ump, then there's really no excuse.
