I believe that, like entertainment, political campaigns have Jump The Shark moments where you can trace the decline of a candidate's chances. For Gerald Ford in 1976, it was when he said Eastern Europe wasn't under Soviet domination. For Richard Nixon in 1960, it was when he showed up at the first debate with JFK without makeup to hide the thick shadow of his beard.
Perhaps the most famous political Jump the Shark moment was in 1988 when Michael Dukakis, in a double digit lead over George Bush, appeared atop a tank wearing a tanker's helmet that made him look like Snoopy. Arguably there were two other possible Jump the Shark moments in the Dukakis campaign. One was his emotionless response to a question about what he would do if his wife were raped. And a much less known Jump the Shark moment was when Dukakis appeared in public while power walking. There is absolutely NO dorkier exercise that power walking. You walk while wildly swinging weights in both hands. The net effect is to make the power walker look like the ultimate nerd.
So what is John Kerry's Jump the Shark moment? It must have already happened since he got a NEGATIVE bounce in the polls coming out of the Democrat convention. Was it when he wore that Sperm Cell outfit at NASA? Or perhaps that wimpy pitch at the Red Sox game where he was later booed? Or was it his overlong convention speech? Please give your ideas on John Kerry's Jump the Shark moment.
Comes across as a real Clymer doesn't he?
How did I miss that Village People moment, with Effin in tight jeans? Yikes!
The Kerry Campaign jumped the shark the moment he married his nutty wife,Tereza. I think she is a real albatross around his neck. Everytime she opens her mouth, we go up a point in the polls.
F-ing John being F-ing John.
How about the whole DNConvention? The same group who spit on police colorguard, booed the boy Scouts and generally disrespected the military is now the military party? Come on, that new attitude was appallingly hypocritical.
I've heard a rumor that Li'l Beaver from PJ's Comix will be making a comeback in a cartoon about the sperm cell outfit.
I knew it wouldn't take long. Thanks!
I think he started flopping shortly after he started flipping!
It will be the day he loses the election. Not a moment before.
As long as the poll numbers are close, I'm not going to say Bush can win the election. I'm on a couple of firearm websites and there are too many people willing to vote for the dems. I didn't see the same thing during the last election. Bush needs the gunowners vote to win.
Village People? When I saw this photo, I thought he'd joined Up With People.
(yes, I realize that reference dates me)
Everyone keeps calling it a "sperm" suit. I think (ironically) he looked more like a condom.
BINGO!
I think Kerry's jump-the-shark moment was the appearance of his daughter Alexandra at the Cannes festival wearing a full-length see-through dress.
Imho, Alexandra was attempting to get back at Kerry for divorcing her mom at a time when she was suicidal.
The bunny suit. After that, it became easy to believe the convention would bomb, which it did.
It's funny this thread popped up. As I was waking up, I was thinking of starting a thread on when folks knew that Bush Sr. was toast.
My thought goes to him looking at his watch during the debate. That seemed to distill the whole problem. During some interview, I wanted to shake the man. I wanted to tell him that, if he didn't really want to win, he should step aside for someone who did.
That moment summed it up.

Fred Grandy is doing a wonderful job with Andy Parks in a morning drive time show (6:00 AM to 9:00 AM) at WMAL in Washington DC. I love to listen to those guys. Fred has a natural gift for the radio. He recently suffered a mild heart attack, but appears to be doing well. You can listen to the show in the morning at:

He's still a Republican at heart - -
on our own side, I've long contended that 41's "shark moment" was when he forced Mary Matalin to shut up about the bimbos. Not gentlemanly, you know. Cost him, and US eight long years of bimbo eruptions.
When he accused his fellow servicemen of war crimes in testimony before congress.
I hope I don't sound too picky, but I think advancing ones public profile if not poliical career by using treachery and back-stabbing says a lot about an individual.

Great post.
It's been one lying excuse after the other since that moment.
The media would like to pretend he's not out there but we are watching.
It ended when he said he wanted to bring OBL here to NY, D.C. and PA for a quick trial leading to the death penalty.
THE MAN IS A DANGEROUS IDIOT.
