St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly Endorses President Bush

Sunday August 1, 1:44 pm ET

ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, in a remarkable show of support, St. Paul Mayor, Randy Kelly (DFL), announced his endorsement for the re-election of the Bush-Cheney '04 ticket. Kelly joined Democrat elected officials across the country that support the re-election of President Bush.

Democrat Senator Zell Miller (D-GA) stated, "I am really pleased Mayor Randy Kelly has joined me in the effort to re-elect George W. Bush. Mayor Kelly knows, as I do, that George W. Bush represents the values of America's heartland. President Bush is a man Democrats and all Americans can rely on to stand by his commitments to fight terrorism and support our troops. The President is also making sure that working people keep more of their hard earned money and send their kids to schools that give every child a good start in life. These are values that my fellow Democrats and all Americans can support."

"Today, Mayor Kelly put principle before partisan politics. His bold decision is courageous and a welcome move towards working across party lines," Bush-Cheney '04 Minnesota Campaign Co-Chair Governor Tim Pawlenty stated. "I salute him and stand alongside him in our efforts to re-elect George W. Bush."

"Mayor Kelly today again proved what I have long known: he is a fine man, whose first priority is not partisanship, but the well-being of St. Paul and the entire nation. Mayor Kelly recognizes that jobs are being created and that tax cuts have stimulated that job growth. He has done the same for St. Paul. He also under stands that we are engaged in a war on terror and now is not the time to change horses in mid-stream. The mayor has never been afraid to reach across party lines to get things done. I applaud him for following his conscience and his concrete convictions. This is bipartisanship at its finest," stated Bush-Cheney '04 Minnesota Campaign Co-Chair Senator Norm Coleman.

Kelly concluded, "With just over 90 days left before the election I feel extremely confident that the message, priorities, and policies of President George W. Bush will better serve America and the people of Minnesota over the next four years."

On Monday, Kelly, Pawlenty, Bush-Cheney '04 Minnesota Honorary Vice-Chair House Speaker Steve Sviggum and former state Senator Bob Lessard will participate in a Unity Tour through Duluth and Rochester, Minnesota.

I've been telling people that a lot of people in the DFL are just not going to put in the effort in 2004 that they did to carry the state for Mondale in 1984.

The DFL Party is tearing itself to pieces.

A friend forwarded me Kelly's statement, and I immediately sent him a thank you note. The hater he describes are one of the reasons I left the Dems in the first place.

I hope you're right. one more battleground state in our quiver.

The press release I posted had "Randy Kelly" in the title, so I searched for "Randy Kelly" and found nothing.

There are, of course, multiple stories.

Can this possibly help slide Minnesota into the Bush/Cheney column this time around?

Get used to seeing these stories. The true value driven democrats see the light. There will be plenty of democratic support for Bush.

This is great news. I rejoice when Democrats put country above party. We need this kind of unity to win the war.

Reagan would have carried Minnesota in 1984, except for a massive last-minute get-out-the-vote effort by the unions on the Iron Range.

If the Party Headquarters called up and asked the folks up on The Range to repeat the effort, they'd be told to go to hell.

The Outstate Democrats are seriously pissed off at the urban liberal leadership of the Party, and that's going to seriously depress turnout.

he's not popular with libs or his city council(also libs)
due to not being strongly opposed to smoking bans(being more or less pro-business) and having too much common sense.

"DFL = Dumb F'n Leftists?"

Not sure, but I think it is Democratic Farmer's League (or Legislature?).

I always viewed it as more of the rural folks that are used to government subsidies for milk, grain, beef, etc. - but have conservative values when it comes to God, Guns and social issues.

Opps - Democratic Farmer-Labor Party.

It was a merger of the Democratic Party and the Farmer Labor Party. Was merged on APRIL 15, 1944 (the perfect date!) Walter Mondale was instrumental in the merger.

The party platform called for: protection for farmers and labor union members, government ownership of some industries and social security laws.
