Any news about the Atlanta airport? Hearing the news about TPA was a bit disturbing.

I'm watching WSB-TV's late news, and they haven't talked about Hartsfield in relation to the terror alert. They said that the level for "Atlanta and the rest of the country" remains at yellow for now.

This implies to me that there may be something in the offing sometime this week.

Nuclear power plants are not easy to crash into and cause any radiation to escape. And the terrorists know this. We are more alarmed about them than we should be, only because we really don't understand how safe they are.

Now a power station, chemical manufacturing plant, buildings with large numbers of people inside - those are more the targets of opportunity that the terrorists are looking for.

Also - gasoline refineries, tank farms (I have two of those near me. Yuk - no Jersey barriers, no nothing on the roads into them. Just drive right on in. I plan on making some telephone calls tomorrow.) power substations, telephone switching stations (imagine taking down the telephones for an entire region? Cellphones were the only method to communicate in the towers but so many couldn't get a signal because usage was so high) - all things to think about and suggest to local officials that better protection of these facilities be invoked.

Just a thought or two.

I just want to know what the plan is when another 9.11 takes place. What's the US going to do?
****

I don't know, this war is like no other war we have ever fought. These people are not originating from a land they defend because they are loyal to and defending a belief which can be in any and all countries, even our own. Personally I believe Islam is merely a big thorn in our sides right now and while we are scattering to handle that situation, look out for Russia and China sneaking up on us.
One side of me wants to be hopeful and look to a bright future for my children and my grandchildren but I am also a believer and I think how is this possible. Homosexuality is running amuck with MUCH public support, you have a million women in Wash. screaming for the right to destroy their children while they lay sleeping peacefully inside of them. Sex and perversion is plastered everywhere. God is being removed from everything. How can I not think God will bring another nation against us to destroy us as judgement. HE has always done that. It is indeed all a holy war at every turn. That which is of God and that which is against God.
Somedays I feel like even the wind whispers..."Choose ye this day whom you will serve." and choose we must, there will be no middle ground.

I think I would, but I'd be following the situation very, very closely in the coming days. The security people would be the primary factor in determining wether to leave or stay, and I would be honest with my boss and let him know of the reasons.

Can you imagine hearing that there is an anticipated strike in your area, but all you hear from our homeland security-types is, "Go out to dinner, see the movie afterward and if you happen to see someone wearing a TNT-enhanced vest, take him out -- Oh, aim for the head!"

This whole threat level business is a joke. Hopefully, in Bush's second term, there will be a more tangible system in place.

Lieberman is actually a decent guy, except for when he sold out with Gore in '00.

Well, I think we should DEMAND to know WHO ARE THEY? The French? Sandy Berger? Just who is giving Kerry intelligence briefings?

None of the above. I think its his magic-8-ball.

About a week or two ago, there was another series of warnings/alerts/what-have-you -- and, the next day, Fox News interviewed a guy who said that the reason for the alerts was the bad guys were on the loose with something like 20 tactical nukes.

The story at that time, as I recall it, was that our guys were trying to intercept them before they could do any damage, and the timeframe was between then, and the end of the year.

Then, all of a sudden, we didn't hear anything about it. The story, as dramatic as it was, government-issued alerts and all, just fell off the edge of the world and disappeared.

Then, today (well, yesterday, I guess; it's officially Monday AM now), out of the blue, comes the latest warning -- on a Sunday, with zero warning, catching the news media off guard (they're not equipped for news to happen on an off-day, I guess), and, with ZERO mention of the last alert/warning series.

So, I am thinking that the two are quite possibly connected.

This is sheer speculation of course, but I am very troubled by several factors:

* First, the seriousness of the last warning.
* Then, the way it just went *poof* and evaporated after a few days...
* And now, *shazam*, a NEW warning -- with NO mention of the LAST warning.

Like I said, it's very troubling.

And, as I said, sheer speculation -- but, IMO it does all doevetail.

So WHAT doevetails?

The two alerts.

I think that the last alert was the "oh, sh**! -- but hopefull it can be stopped" stage.

I think the current alert is the "oh, sh**! -- we don't think it can be stopped -- and we now do have a better idea of the intended targets."

I think this might be a good time to keep the cars gas tanks topped off, the cupboards filled, and a plan for the frozen food in your freezer in case it starts thawing.

And if it goes full-ugly-mode, those will be the least of our worries. But, at least they're something we can deal with.

We appear to be living in interesting times.

Footnote:

I watched Ridge give his little talk today, and the guy seemed to be worried. Nervous. Scared. NOT "in control" of things.

I don't like that. I don't like that one bit.

I've never had a whole lot of respect for the guy, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But, I do think that one of his main job qualifications was his inate ability to "look strong" and maintain the ol' poker face.

With that in mind, Sunday's "Nervous Tom Ridge" presentation was "a tell." Gone was the old reliable poker face. And it makes ME very nervous when I think about what that signifies.

If you turn on the tube, and see that "the anchors" have all been "sent on assignment" or "on R&R at their ranches", and a bunch of gov't bigwigs are way out in the boonies, "campaigning" or "resting at their ranches" or "in an undisclosed location", then I'd start to sweat.

I'm not much of a believer in "coincidence", and I'll never forget what I read in Christopher Hitchens' "Night of the Weak Knees" column (click my name to read it on my FR homepage).

If a bunch of government and media hotshots all decide to be outta dodge (or "just happen to be on assignment"), then draw your own conclusions. You already know what I'll have concluded.

That says to me that all the international ports and airports have probably been jacked up as well.

I connected through Minniapolis from Tokyo on Saturday afternoon and security was visibly more intense than a week ago when I was outbound. The customs official (we had to do the customs-recheck bags-repass detector process even though it was just a tansborder connection...didn't have to do this outbound) even though I was simply connecting through the same airline. I asked the cuutoms guy if this was ramped up scrutiny and he said it was. It definately appeared if they were watching for something.

Dean has gone from a goofy, moronic wannabe president to an out and out traitor with his accusations. He's pathetic and dangerous, and will do anything to get on the good side of the Dims. He reminds me of dumb Eddie Haskell.

I heard a similar thought from a friend yesterday who compared the US with the Dark Ages. Perhaps we are indeed on the path to a much darker side.
