Does Teresa have dual citizenship?

Posted on 07/31/2004 12:05:09 PM PDT by CovenBuster

I am curious about Mrs. Kerry's citizenship. Is she a citizen of Mozambique as well as a citizen of America? Does anyone know off the top of their head? Thanks.

How did you become a U.S. citizen without renouncing your other citizenship (not challenging you, just curious).

I did not "become" a U.S. citizen. My parents were U.S. citizens. This makes me a U.S. citizen (no matter where I was born.) By Panamanian law, I am a Panamanian because I was born here. Panama has no office where one born in Panama can renounce Panamanian citizenship. Therefore, I am bi-national. Period..

I am told I had dual citizenship with US and Spain until I was 21. After that age Spain didn't recognize my citizenship

This is the way that I had understood that these things worked. Ostensibly, a person can be loyal to only one government (after becoming an adult). I do not fault any one who has "dual-citizenship", but I find it a little strange.

I am a passionate conservative American, and a pox on anybody otherwise. Because I have dual citizenship does not make me less of a passionate conservative American

I would NEVER intimate otherwise. My interest is purely academic.

I honor your conservatism.

Was she ever a citizen of Mozambique. I thought her parents were diplomats there. I thought she was from somewhere in South America.

She was born in Mozambique, a possession of Portugal at the time, to a Portuguese doctor.

She chose to attend the University of Witswaterand in South Africa at the height of apartheid.

BTW she speaks so many languages because there is not much of a jump from Portuguese to Spanish to Italian.

Please. I know you are not intimating me or anyone else. On my part, I thank you for letting me have this conversation with you which is lost on many people, and I'm not talking only about the internet.

Reference post #35.

And your misguided point is?

I'm sorry A.A., If I'm sounding cranky, I'm just getting a tad tired of this.

Who cares?

Slam her on the issues, but don't bother with the dual citizenship, unless you're willing to hit Republicans as well.

The Governator has dual citizenship, but nobody here worries about his loyalty being to Austria first.

Teresa has been in America some 30 years.

Five lanquages?

She cannot speak English properly!

I know a number of immigrants and foreigners here not very long that speak clear polished English without sounding like a hog eating swill.

The was mention on FR thread that John FKerry was also a French citizen.

True or not?

Being born on US Territory makes one a natural born US citizen, putz.

She is an internationalist and we are indeed in trouble if she gets the keys to the White House.

At least she has enough money whereby she won't have to steal the silverware and furniture like someone we know................

What I want to know is -- What year did she become a citizen and how long she was in America before she became a citizen?
