COSTA MESA – Singer Don Henley drew a chorus of boos from fans at the Pacific Amphitheatre after he made several political comments between songs during his concert Thursday night, becoming the latest performer to elicit such a negative reaction ...

Henley, referring to that incident Thursday night, began a sentence with, "Given what my good friend Linda Ronstadt ," but was silenced as the amphitheatre erupted in boos. He responded: "Whoops - Orange County," adding, "We used to be able to have civil debate in this country Not anymore." ...

Henley then suggested his next song could be a duet sung by President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney ...

Welcome to Hotel California. The article has a side reference to the effect that Sunday's Arts & Entertainment section "will examine the ongoing controversy over entertainers veering into political commentary." It also states that a review of the Henley concert will appear.

Hey Don, maybe if you sold tickets to a debate I'd have some sympathy. These people paid for a concert, not a lecture. What a Jacka$$!

People stop going to their concerts, stop buying their music, they'll get the message soon enough!

I really can't believe anyone who would buy tickets to a Don Henly concert would be unaware of his politics or the fact that he wears them on his sleave. I woudn't have bought tickets in the first place.

Debate? Did he select a volunteer from the audience to come up and have a civil debate? Or is his idea of a debate where a performer harangues the audience on his political views when there is no opportunity for a response.

I guess it depends on what the meaning of "debate" is.

The number of words that remain uncorrupted by Progresive Newspeak diminishes every year.

He's always been an ass....talented but still a hotheaded lefty.

I bet not many here remember when he got arrested for the underage girl and Quaaludes and Coke at his home back in 1980.

He's a bit of a Roman.....Polanski.

I guess the philosophy now adopted by entertainers is, "Everyone is entitled to my opinion."

Amen to that!!! If I am going to spend 100.00+ to be entertained, I certainly do not want to hear any political commentary. I can sit at home for free in front of the TV to hear that.

EXACTLY!

The "stars'" idea of a debate is that they should be able to spout off anything they wish and the rest of us just clap.

The day Whoopie lets me come into her house, make any political comment I wish, and leave without allowing her the ability to retort - that's the day I'll have a little more respect for her.

Another thing that frosts my cookies is when one of these oxygen thieves says something stupid and then suffers the consequences, and then all their lil' buddies come running around talking about their "courage." It took courage for an Iraqui to speak out against Saddam Hussein. It takes no courage for a celebrity to spout off in front of a hand-picked audience of sympathetic liberals.

Okay, ungrammatical rant over. Guess I'll go get some decaf...

"We used to be able to have civil debate in this country Not anymore."

That's not a "debate" Don, it's you pushing your political views onto fans that just want to hear your music. Just shut up and play.

The backlash against entertainers continues.

Most of us go to concerts to escape the real world, and its ongoing problems, for a little while.

Entertainers don't see to "get this". All they are doing at this point is causing people to seek other forms of "refuge" from life.

And I'll add at this point, its helping President Bush, not Senator Kerry.

Oh well, never met an entertainer that was in danger of being contacted by Mensa......

Maybe Ben Stein. Oh, wait, he's a conservative.

Backlash??? Haven't you people figured it out yet??? They do it for the publicity they get. All the ranting and raving and boycotting and such we do, does nothing but put their names in the news.

Who the hell cared about Linda whoever before she shot her mouth off? Now she's all over the place.

Ignoring these people is the most fitting thing to do.

Dear Mr. Henley. We didn't really have a debate of any sort until
conservative talk radio and FOX.

This is sort of sad because I have respected Henley's "putting his money where
his mouth is" in conservation projects like saving Thoreau's "Walden Pond".

But even if I respect an artist's stands, they should keep the stage comments
about politics to witty quips...and then move on with what they do best...entertain.

Don doesn't care about what any of us have to say about politics. His attitude---shut up and pay.

"People stop going to their concerts, stop buying their music, they'll get the message soon enough!"

That's the key -- stop feeding the beast. With the single exception of The Passion, I haven't gone to a movie in many years. Nor have I bought music or attended concerts. These concert goers have only themselves to blame if they don't realize by now that Henley is an America-bashing loud-mouthed moron.

I love it, honest debate...now if Henley had Ted Nugent up there with him, then I could say that it would be an honest (albeit one-sided) debate. When an ass.
