Its not in our interest to confirm it if we do have him. He would have to wrung dry before they released this info. More targets of opportunity that way. Perhaps even the big guy.

"I hope, if this turns out to be true, that the sample sent in was his head on a stick"

Good enough for rabid animals......

Agree that there is no way this would be announce without slam dunk confirmation. To announce this the day after Kerry's acceptance, then to be proven wrong? Campaign ender...

When Saddam was captured it didn't take long at all to get the word out. I suspect that Zarqawi, being high level, is operating on his own and doesn't keep up with the whereabouts of other independent terrorism bigwigs, so there wouldn't be a big advantage to keeping such a capture secret.

It'a not unusual to hide a capture like this for as long as possible. Once it's known that he's been captured, lots of his contacts will disappear.

And the usual suspects will whine about the timing being suspicious whenever we DO announce the capture.

OK, here's my list of al-Zarqawi interrogation tools:

1. Barry Manilow's "Copacabana."
2. Barney Theme Song.
3. William Shatner's recording of "Tambourine Man."
4. Leonard Nimoy's recording of "Bilbo Baggins."

Feel free to add your own tools to my list...

the odds of this being true have increased. first time i heard it, 1:10, second, 2:10, up to 3:10

it also makes sense for the US/coalition side to deny this, so they can interrogate this clown before his assets scatter...

particularly if there is some evil being planned in the US...

here's hoping its 10:10 !!!

"I make it a point to visit 9-11 memorial websites weekly to keep my anger fresh. We must never forget."

No need to visit websites. Just remember the question of the child to the teacher as people jumped from the tower: "Why are those birds on fire?"

More details:
KUWAIT CITY, July 30 (Xinhuanet)-- A man said to be Jordanian militant Abu Musab Zarqawi, whose Tawhid and Jihad group has claimed responsibility for numerous attacks in Iraq, was captured during a joint operation by coalition forces and Iraqi police, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported Friday.

The Politics newspaper quoted a senior Iraqi police official as saying that the US and Iraqi investigators are trying to identify the captive, who was seized at the border of Iraq and Syria, and has sent his DNA sample for testing.

Zarqawi, the No. 3 person of the al Qaida terrorist network, is the most wanted suspect in Iraq and has a US bounty of 25 million US dollars on his head.

The captive said his group operates mainly in west Iraq and a small faction of the group scatters around Baghdad and southern Iraq. He also revealed the hideouts of some members and ways of their communications.

Zarqawi's group has claimed responsibility for a number of bloody attacks and beheadings of foreigners, including US businessman Nicholas Berg, South Korean translator Kim Sun-il and Bulgarian truck driver Georgi Lazov.

The captive, garbed in a white shirt and jeans, gave no resistance when he realized his hideout was besieged, according to Iraqi police.

A week ago, Kuwaiti media reported that coalition forces and Iraqi police had rounded up Zarqawi and a handful of his followers in a certain Iraqi area bordering Syria. Enditem

Gave no resistance. Sounds right, the gutless coward.

Yes, let's hope this is true.

Zarqawi has to potential to be worse than bin Laden. If he gains more followers and more financiers, he could be devastatingly deadly.

Why would Kerry want Zarqawi tried? After all, the war was fought under false pretenses, so Zarqawi is just a freedom fighter resisting an unjust occupation, isn't he?

For that matter, what is Kerry's justification for trying Saddam? He should call for his immediate release.

It was easy to nab Zarqawi. He was the one guy in Iraq glued to his tv set watching the Kerry speech.
