Loved Ones Asked To Donate To Democratic Cause
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- A South Florida woman who died this week had an unusual last request. Instead of flower or contributions in her name to a charity, she asked those who loved her to try to make sure President George W. Bush is not re-elected.
Loved ones said that Joan Abbey was committed to her political passions, even in death.
Abbey was born in Montreal, but lived for many years in Miami Beach and Aventura. Family and friends came from as far away as Canada and California to remember Abbey at the Mount Nebo Jewish Cemetery in Miami.
Abbey, who was a lifelong Democrat, died Monday -- coincidentally on the first day of the Democratic National Convention.
Her sister, Tillie Shapiro, said, "She was just a caring person She cared about people, and people who were disadvantaged."
Abbey was buried the day after the Democratic convention ended. Her unusual death notice in the Miami Herald said: "You can honor Joan's values by voting against George Bush and contributing to a liberal or Democratic cause."
Abbey's nephew, Martin Shapiro, said, "What she cared most about was improving circumstances in this country... getting rid of George Bush and making this a better country for all people."
Coincidentally, the presiding rabbi, Brett Goldstein, is a registered Democrat but is voting for Bush, and he questioned the timing of Abbey's message at such a sensitive time.
"My contention is that if there's any situation that's sacrosanct, it should be devoid of political ramifications," Goldstein said. "Although people have the opportunity and they can do it if they want to, it is not really appropriate at this time."
Shapiro said, "It was her (Abbey's) essence. It was her core value to try to see this country become a better place and become a more just society. And I think that was the last word she'd want to leave."
Abbey did not want her age known. Many friends said she remained forever young in spirit and staunchly committed to her beliefs.
Liberals work hard to enact legislation to keep their minions miserable - misery loves company. On earth and the hereafter.
At least she got 'FOUR MORE YEARS' with Bush (2000-2004)before she passed away. That should keep her miserable in the hereafter.
Hopefully, her family WILL keep donating money to democrat causes - like throwing money down a rat hole. Only then, like her, can they remain miserable as well.
It's the circle of life (and death) to these democrats.
Joan Abbey, upon realizing she had passed on to the other side, turned and asked the person beside her, "Why is it so hot in here"?
LLS
When liberal losers see my Bush bumper stickers I can see the veins in their face almost burst. When I see their bumper stickers I just laugh at them.
Get over it and move on.The most important thing for the living right now is that Bush be reelected. But if he were to somehow lose, you won't see me grieving - life goes on.
To that end I encourage all non liberals to help the libs be miserable- that's what they seem to want to be. Poke fun at them. Laugh at their lies. Enjoy yourselves. Pretty much everyone has made up their mind on who to vote for, so don't let their petty outbursts get to you. Bush isn't sweating this one, so why shoud we?
Didn't we have this same story in 2000 and in 2002?
Obviously suffered from end stage dementia.
Yo, Abby.. if those disadvantaged people would get a job, wouldn't that do it?
Joan don't you know--if you want to vote for the RATs its easy. The cemetary vote is exceptionally high for DEMS and has and distinguished long history dating back to places like South Texas and Cook County. I am sure Janet Reno and a few other good Florida DEMs can help you get you vote registered in November regardless of your locale. But just remember, despite Michael Moore and his video Cam--if you leave a hanging chad it won't count any more voting from the grave than it did voting from the condo.
Why?
Because it shows the press will trot out stories like these in election years - anybody but Bush BS.
Because this dead lady is a sad case if her dying wish is about politics.
Because there is precedence and adds to a history of bias press stories here on FR with the same theme - for instance: "Her Dying wish: To Oust Bush"
And because it gets lots of comments. :^)
One is entertainment, fantasy if you will, the other is hard reality of life, things that deal with now and the future. Particularly with this election, when the choice can be between life and death.
They can't seriously consider the issues and realize like Reagan did that the party had left them and doesn't reflect their real values. And they end up with such a clash of values that I seriously believe borders on driving them insane. They seem incapable of seriously weighing evidence and making a judgement based on such evidence.
May God help us...
I guess she'll number among the restless dead, then, huh?
I agree, what is up with this bullshite story.
I mean, who gives a f*** what this old dying wench thinks about anything.
UGH..see how meam I get when I read this kind of thing.

I think that a "hambone burial" is in order here. Shove a hambone up her butt and let the dogs drag her back to Canada.
Yes Teddy, see post# 109.
I am feeling a need for prayer.
OMG...That's GOT to be the funniest picture I've seen yet.
Do you mind if I send it to my nephew on the the left coast?
