TOWN OF NEWBURGH, N.Y., July 31 -- John and Elizabeth Edwards celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary today, and they and this small upstate town will not soon forget it.
The John Kerry campaign pulled its 10-bus caravan up to Wendy's restaurant to accommodate the vice presidential couple, who had their first date at the fast-food restaurant and always dine there on their anniversary . This is not one they will soon forget because the celebration included John and Teresa Heinz Kerry, Tom Brokaw, George Stephanopoulos, and 100 members of the media.
"So you understand, this is our anniversary. We always celebrate our anniversary at Wendy's," Elizabeth Edwards told the clerk as she ordered her Classic Combo Single.
Ditto for her mate -- but he went with cheese. And John Kerry went for the Chili and chocolate frosty. The power couples certainly caused a stir -- but it was Ben Affleck who moved with a throng. A Democrat and friend of Kerry's, the movie actor said he joined the trip to learn about the political process and not always be around just for the glamorous work.

I suggest Mrs. Edwards try the grilled chicken salad with low-fat Italian dressing the next time she visits Wendy's (and eschew the French fries).
I didn't see Tereeeeeza in any of the photographs. Did she drop in at the nearest French restaurant, which the "trash" stopped in at Wendy's?
I got the same feeling, that the Marine is not happy about having to be in the same place as this traitor. The Marine sitting down has what seems to be a dumbfounded look on his face... not sure how to describe it.

That might win him 3 vates. If it was contrived it was probably because he was going to try to impress James Taylor (who for all his mental faults is still a pretty good fingerpicker).
Thanks for the clarification. I have been thinking about her and her age, and having children at that age, and how tough it must be to try to keep weight down. I know I am not that young, and once I passed 40, weight has been a problem. I have gained weight, and am having to work very hard to take it off. But you are correct, it is the lie that she's "had to put away the size 10's" that is so galling. Why lie like that?

The first thing I thought when I read that was "she'll never make it back into a size 10".
And, while I'm being catty, what do you think of Terry Kerry, the pickle heiress, hair-do? I think she'd possibly look better if she used her husbands barber.
I didn't take the time to read all 200+ replies, but it seems to me that the reason Edwards hangs out in Wendy's is to look out for fat potential clients who could be encouraged to sue Wendy's for their aggravated caloric assault on their hefty customers.

Denial, denial, denial. I had a huge neighbor in Wisconsin (where a lot of women are plus size) who told me she was size 8 when she moved from New York a couple years before. Yeah, sure.
It must be murder for Elizabeth to look at the many photos folks are snapping of her next to her thin husband. Now I realize why the only pic on Edwards for Pres website showed only her face with the baby hiding her body.
