Reports in Kuwait on Friday said a man assumed to be Al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab Zarqawi has been captured near the Syrian border.
The report claimed that the man was captured during a joint operation by U.S. occupation forces and Iraqi police, Al Siyasah newspaper, quoting Iraqi sources, said Friday.
It also said that the suspect was caught in a white shirt and jeans, and he gave no resistance when he realized his hideout was besieged, according to Iraqi police.
The U.S. and Iraqi investigators are trying to identify the captive and has sent his DNA sample for testing, the unconfirmed report indicated.
Zarqawi is the most wanted suspect in Iraq and has a U.S. bounty of $25 million on his head.

Jordanian militant Zarqawi, whose Tawhid and Jihad groups have claimed responsibility for numerous attacks in Iraq, was captured during a joint operation by coalition forces and Iraqi police, the Politics said Friday.
The newspaper quoted a senior Iraqi police official as saying that the US and Iraqi investigators are trying to identify the captive, who was seized at the border of Iraq and Syria, and has sent his DNA sample for testing.
Zarqawi is the most wanted suspect in Iraq and has a US bounty of $25 million on his head.
The captive said his group operates mainly in western Iraq and a few militants are scattered around Baghdad and southern Iraq. He also revealed the hideouts of some members and the way they communicated amongst themselves.
Zarqawi's group has claimed responsibility for a number of bloody attacks and beheadings of foreigners, including US businessman Nicholas Berg, South Korean translator Kim Sun-il and Bulgarian truck driver Georgi Lazov.
The captive, dressed in a white shirt and jeans, offered no resistance when he realised his hideout was besieged, according to Iraqi police.
A week ago, Kuwaiti media reported that coalition forces and Iraqi police had rounded up Zarqawi and a handful of his followers in a certain Iraqi area bordering Syria.
