Reports in Kuwait on Friday said a man assumed to be Al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab Zarqawi has been captured near the Syrian border.
The report claimed that the man was captured during a joint operation by U.S. occupation forces and Iraqi police, Al Siyasah newspaper, quoting Iraqi sources, said Friday.
It also said that the suspect was caught in a white shirt and jeans, and he gave no resistance when he realized his hideout was besieged, according to Iraqi police.
The U.S. and Iraqi investigators are trying to identify the captive and has sent his DNA sample for testing, the unconfirmed report indicated.
Zarqawi is the most wanted suspect in Iraq and has a U.S. bounty of $25 million on his head.
But Tom Daschle is very concerned.
Is this the october surprise in july?

It's been on Google News since this thread started. Just search "Zarqawi". Al-bawaba also has te story. They have been so-so on credibility. Xinhua has also run the story.
When DRUDGE or FOXNEWS runs it, I'll believe it.
That's EXACTLY my thought - how on earth would the terrorists benefit from this if it was merely a rumor? Rather, they would only release this if it were meant to tell others to flee...
Still, catching Zarqawi would be massive.

Candidate Kerry today said that Osama and Zarqawi both deserve to be tried
in US Courts of law, with appointed lawyers and media to help them.
He said that trying terrorists in US Courts would ensure the 'fastest, surest route'
to stopping terrorism.
After what Kerry did to himself last night, I would have a confident smirk on my face too if I were Bush.
