Zarqawi Caught At Syrian-Iraq Border (Aljazeera alert)
Al Jazeera ^ | July 30, 2004 | Al Jazeera

Posted on 07/30/2004 12:05:47 PM PDT by Publius Maximus

Reports in Kuwait on Friday said a man assumed to be Al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab Zarqawi has been captured near the Syrian border.

The report claimed that the man was captured during a joint operation by U.S. occupation forces and Iraqi police, Al Siyasah newspaper, quoting Iraqi sources, said Friday.

It also said that the suspect was caught in a white shirt and jeans, and he gave no resistance when he realized his hideout was besieged, according to Iraqi police.

The U.S. and Iraqi investigators are trying to identify the captive and has sent his DNA sample for testing, the unconfirmed report indicated.

Zarqawi is the most wanted suspect in Iraq and has a U.S. bounty of $25 million on his head.

Hmmmmm, maybe there was something to the report yesterday. They can discount it if and until the DNA tests pan out.

Isn't this the fourth time this week he has been caught? Why do the keep letting him back out?

Sounds like Pakistan is helping to "catch" him....

This is all Bush's fault. The republican's have had him all along! They just waited until after the convention to let us know, now there will be no bounce. boo hoo! Kerry would treat him better and would have caught him sooner. Kerry would have sent his wife, (the kook) to Iraq and all the terrrorists would have surrendered long ago.

this fish is responsible for the Insurgency. and the Spain bombing. and the Kidnappings. and Falluja. It would be seriesly hugh. I agree. He is probably considered more wanted than Laden at this point. IF and I mean IF he is caught or killed all we have to do is watch the Nick Berg tape to remember who this animal is.

Hmmmm.

Has anyone else noticed that this report came from Aljazeera.com?

That's different from the infamous Aljazeera.net

www.strategypage.com had earlier today posted this:

July 30, 2004: Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's driver has been captured, and the government expects to capture al-Zarqawi soon.

Jim Dunnigan's site isn't always right, but it's MUCH better than Al Jazeera . If they really got al-Zarqawi's driver a quick capture of the guy himself might well follow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have my doubts about this. It has made its way onto Instapundit, but Reynolds is properly skeptical.
