Lobster Liberation Front declares war on fishermen
London Telegraph ^ | 30/07/2004 | Richard Savill

Police are investigating a claim by an animal rights extremist group that it was responsible for releasing a fisherman's lobsters, seriously damaging his boathouse and splashing red paint around his home.

The statement by an organisation calling itself the Lobster Liberation Front included a warning that "the war against the lobster industry has begun". The notice, which was posted anonymously on the Southern Animal Rights Coalition website, added: "We will attack anywhere, at any time, and pots will be smashed, boats sunk and sea life liberated."

It added: "No animal should be sacrificed for human greed, let alone boiled alive."

The statement, which was being treated "seriously" by police, follows attacks on the property of Jonathan Lander, 42, a fisherman from Swanage, Dorset. In May, his boathouse was badly damaged and 50 of his lobster pots were vandalised. Last month, his boat was damaged, 30 live lobsters and three crabs were released from his pots and returned to the sea, and red paint was thrown over his house.

Mr Lander, a father of two, said: "The Lander family has been lobster fishing in Dorset for over 200 years. If these people have a real problem with what we do they should have the decency to come and speak to us and not threaten my family or our livelihood."

The LLF claimed that its "buccaneers" had torn off the front of the boathouse, and cut up the 30 lobster pots before crushing them. A further 20 pots were sabotaged on the slipway.

In the second attack, the group said two of its members went out to sea in a boat and found 30 lobsters and three crabs being stored in pots with their claws bound with elastic bands.

It added: "The bands were cut and the marine life returned to the sea." The group said its members then ripped down the radio mast from Mr Lander's lobster boat, put the engine out of action and cut the anchor cable. Fish crates, rods, lifejackets and other equipment were thrown overboard.

I know this doesn't help you, but there is one at "Steamboat Landing" in Oyster Bay Long Island. I live in Fairfield County CT, and I take my boat over. It is about a 15-20 min ride from me, and the Resturant has docks that you can tie up at.

The funny thing about this game is that the lobsters ARE smart enough to hang out in areas where it is hard to get the claw at them.

-Not that I felt guilty about consuming my prize soaked in drawn butter -yum!

FWIW, it is $2.00 a game, and I ended up putting about $20 in to get a 1-pounder, but it was worth it. There's just something about eating sea-food you "caught" yourself...

All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Hope they like living in Prison when they get caught.

These terrorists are truly useless eaters.

I hope that, if caught, they don't live long enough to see prison.

Hopefully these yahoos get caught red-handed at sea, where admiralty law applies. Then perhaps they could be charged with piracy, which I think is still a hanging offence, under admiralty law.

Hang 'em from the yardarm (or the 21st century equivalent) and bury 'em at sea (the nautical version of "shoot, shovel and shut up"). Then e-mail their organizations wondering what ever happened to so 'n so.

Mr. Lander obviously knows what NOT to say to the media. The '200 year' and 'threaten my family' references clearly indicates his intentions if he ever catches these jerks. Smart fella.

WHAT?!
", let alone boiled alive."

They're serious, aren't they?
No seafood joint worth it's melted butter boils the lobster alive.
Egads, a few animals huggers are going to get their faces knocked in and then keelhauled...

I hit send before adding "send them your favorite recipe."

Lobster fra Diavolo

Ingredients

1 lb. linguini
4 lobster tails, split
8 - 15 tiger shrimp
1/2 cup white wine
2 Tblsp. shallots, finely chopped
8 large tomatoes, chopped or diced
2 Tblsp. garlic cloves, slivered
1 tsp. oregano
3 tsp. basil, chopped
1 Tblsp. red pepper, crushed
1/2 cup clam juice
Salt and pepper to taste
Dash parsley, chopped

Method
Place the olive oil in a large saute pan. When the oil is hot, add lobster tails and shrimp. Saute until golden brown. Add shallots, garlic and tomatoes. Once you blend all the ingredients, add white wine and clam juice to stop the cooking process. Season the sauce with oregano, fresh basil, crushed red pepper, and parsley. Reduce heat and cover. Cook the pasta separately al dente. After the pasta is cooked, lay a bed of pasta on each plate and top with the lobster and shrimp sauce.

Serves 4

That is unreal.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I see things like that.

On a related note, my wife let my 4-year-old talk her into getting not one but two hermit crabs when we were at the beach last week.
I asked her why we couldn't get a couple of pet lobsters instead, and just have them for dinner when we got tired of them.

She didn't find that all that funny. ;)

Whenever I bring lobsters home I always name them, because it drives my formerly liberal but slowly reforming GF nuts.

I always tell her that if she's feeling guilty I'll make her a hot dog and eat her lobster for her.

From the site:
A number of devoted followers of Saint Megan's example, most notably Matthew Hart and the Gus then allegedly went on a nationwide rampage, breaking into grocery stores, stealing lobsters (sometimes at gunpoint) and using an elaborate relay system of accomplices to ensure the lobsters' arrival at their natural oceanic homes.

If you wish to join the lobster liberation movement, take the following steps:

1. Get a mask so that the hidden cameras will not be able to photograph your face.

2. Get a big gun. Those pimply-faced clerks who work at the seafood counter sometimes like to play the role of hero. Big guns curtail this urge.

3. Get a fast non-descript car with good suspension. The first leg of the journey to the sea is the most hectic one and often requires high velocities, sharp cornering, and sometimes off-road interludes. But when your charges are happilly in the ocean, think how you will beam with pride!

4. Develop a network of reliable friends of a like mind. This website is a resource for people in the movement. Use it effectively!

BTW check out the links. They're some kinda' pervo-lobster-goths.

No seafood joint worth it's melted butter boils the lobster alive.

It's the only way. Lobster is best absolutly fresh.

I prefer to split them alive, coat them with garliic butter then toss them on the grill, legs still kicking. Yum. lobster is one ingrediant that should not be overworked.

I knew I punk in College who got his very drunken 15 minutes of national news fame buy trying to shoplift a live lobster down the front of his pants ahla Berger. We never let him live it down. Come to think of it, I think I'll give him a call and laugh about it (it's been 20 years, he's laughing also).
