Zogby: ZERO Bounce for Kerry
NewsMax ^ | 7-30-04

A Zogby poll taken while the four-day Democratic Convention was underway shows that the Kerry Edwards ticket has failed to add even a single percentage point to its support.

The poll of 1,001 likely voters conducted Monday through Thursday found that 48 percent support the Kerry Edwards ticket - the exact same number that backed the Massachusetts Democrat in a July 6-7 survey.

The only good news for the presidential hopeful came in the category of undecideds, which had grown to eight points in the latest survey, up from five points in the earlier sample. The latest Zogby numbers show Kerry Edwards leading Bush Cheney 48 to 43 percent. Support for Bush Cheney in the previous sample was 46 percent.

Thanks. I'm just curious as to why Zogby would poll just before Kerry's speech and not the day after. I wonder if he plans on polling again in a day or two.

Even the mainstream media acknowledges CNN attracts more Dems. THus, it is no surprise they beat Fox, though Fox did better for all-day ratings still.

Callers to C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" Friday morning were giddy over the Kerry speech. They believe that all there is to do is wait for an "honest count" on Nov. 2. C-SPAN even spent time this week reflecting on who would be in a Kerry Cabinet, and the popular former Governor Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, was the one name that I remember from that list. Kerry now has a 5-point or more lead in NH.

CNN had highest score during convention. Stands to reason.

I was more curious over the three networks as a whole. Like I said, Limbaugh has been making a big joke over the ratings for the networks coverage of the convention. Well, they are just covering one hour a night. I assume that anyone who is really interested - Democrat, Republican or whatever - is going to start watching the coverage on one of the three news networks and isn't going to bother switching to ABC, CBS or NBC. Anyone not intersted in not going to bother with the abbreviated coverage and will tune out at 10 PM. An increase in CNN, FOX or MSNBC ratings would seem to confirm that.

'Actually, I think it's too early for the bounce. We will probably see it next week."

Yep. We should have a fairly accurate picture of how effective the DNC was this week long about next Wednesday or Thursday.

That said, I think this will be the smallest "bounce" in modern political history...and it could quite possibly lower Kerry's numbers....which would be very bad for the Democrats. Its worth noting every time Kerry speaks, his numbers drop.

If FOX kkeps their lineup with the convention as a backdrop, like they did for the DNC, then I'll be flipping among CSPAN, MS/NBC and, yes, CNN. I want watch the speeches and the speakers, I don't need to filter it through O'Reilly and Hannity.

No kidding.

Looks like the network pundits have almost unanimously put Kerry's awkward blathering right up there with the Gettysburg Address.

I wonder about that. I think that this time the electorate is so strongly polarized to one side or the other by now that the undecided pool to get a bounce from is small compared to past elections.

Fixed your typo: Zogby's big claim to fame was that he nailed it 96 and noone else was even close. Since then he has been slipping. And yes he is a lefty and a lebanese arab but it USUALLY doesn't affect his numbers.

Kerry campaigns to get a bump in the polls.

"Hey, fellas, make sure you snap me in this pose."

"I love pics that make me look commanding."
"Man, I'll show Bush what a leader looks like."

I think that he had a bounce that was countered by a drop.

In a few weeks we should see the real stats without the convention built in bounce.

You are probably right. I imagine there will be another online poll today or tomorrow when things settle down. Zogby is famous for the first call on a poll....and as shown when W won the election, Zogby was wrong.

Do they give Bush a 44% Job Approval? That's wrong.

That is totally wrong. Did you catch the President's speech this morning, about an hour ago in Missouri?? He came out hitting hard...and quickly let everyone know the DNC convention held absolutely NO SUBSTANCE. Kerry is an empty suit....question Why did they just talk about 3 MONTHS OR LESS IN NAM, AND BARELY MENTIONED 19 YEARS OF Kerry in Congress? I wonder!!??!!

It didn't even play in Martha's Vieyard. They are dedicated Clintonians there.

Kerry talks about uniting the nation. He can't even unite the Party. There are two definite wings to the Dem Party--the Kerry/Ted Kennedy, and the Bill/Hillary Clinton.

And they hate each other's guts.
