Rushed speech, lost opportunity [Dem rump-swab trashes speech]
The Boston Globe ^ | July 30, 2004 | By Thomas Oliphant

FOR REASONS he might like to explain, John Kerry last night raced through an acceptance speech that was way too long for a time slot he knew about for weeks.

Desperate to stay within the broadcast networks' paltry 60 minutes, Kerry stepped on his best thoughts and lines and blurred important proposals and distinctions, committing the sin of interfering with his own ability to communicate with an electorate eager to learn much more about President Bush's opponent. At a Democratic convention planned to showcase a candidate and his basic approach to two huge situations -- a bogged-down military adventure in Iraq and a fragile economy -- Kerry obscured his presentation in a blizzard of hard-to-follow verbiage dictated by the clock.

Ter-A-zah... wants to be called 'Mama T'. You know, kinda like Mother Teresa. That's what she said to the queers anyway. HA!

She'll always be "Tizzy" to me. ;-D

the speech was rushed, and delivered in a monotone.

Besides the lack of one single memorable idea, did you notice how Kerry kept rocking back and forth, back and forth on his feel like a little boy who has to take a pee and is holding his dinky.

He stepped on almost every applause line, and seemed like he had overamped on caffeine. He spoke in such rapid-fire his ideas seemed to blend together.

He didn't mention the Israel conflict even once, even though it is one of the center pieces of world affairs. He was scared and nervous, no doubt, and doesn't have one shred of confidence.

did you notice, Kerry failed to mention Bill Clinton's name even ONE TIME ... and he didn't have one single joke. No humor at all.

Even though I see things through Republican eyes, I am fully convinced that this speech will be forgotten within one day, maybe two, because there was not one memorable line.

Kerry stole at least three lines from the Bush Cheney speeches of 2000. Hope (help) is on the way. Freedom will win over fear. And .. I forget the third.

Anyway, the main thing I will remember is Kerry, rocking back and forth, from left to right, like he has to take a wicket pee and is holding it in. HA HA.

The main factor is that it was way, way too long.

Not to worry, sKerry will blame someone other than himself. It is one of those things Senators get used to doing, and he's certainly done it a whole bunch in the recent past.

You're right. If you can't communicate your ideas in an hour, you can't communicate.

Well, "someone" needed to use the blue editor's pencil on that rambling diatribe of verbal diarrhea. It was awful in content and delivery. Yep, he blew the opportunity.

Basically as has been said before on FR, Kerry is a Local Yokle barely ready to be a Boston alderman let alone a national politician.

He could never be called a "Leader" in the US Senate and essentially did nothing in terms of original legislation for his decades ther.

He ran in a state where as a liberal RAT any performance short of serious jail time would get him reelected. But barely in his case, it seems.

The guy is not ready for prime time and only his ego and TEREEEESA are pushing this thing. In the end Kerry will make Jimmmay look like Churchill. It is sad the DEMS squander if not trash what few real leaders and statement they might have.

John Kerry's blond daughter has one of the most unusual noses I've ever seen. After she delivered her homily to daddy I shut the tube off so missed her boring daddy. Most of the evening I flipped between "Hoosiers" (movie, ESPN) and Fox News.

I agree with most of what you say here, especially how it was a good week all around for the GOP.

I think he had to do something positive, though, not just "lean into the pitch" - it was up to him to perform in order to have a chance of winning, but even a perfect performance was not going to result in a win by itself.

He tried too hard, and the performance fell short.

After reading the commentary here about the speech given by little bunny fufu (I refuse to watch), my suspicions are finally confirmed about the morning guys on Milwaukee's AM 1130 weber and dolan. Ive thought of these guys as closet liberals for some time but just thought I was being overly critical. No more.

During my ride into work this morning they began talking about the fufu speech as if it were the Gettysburg address. They even used the term "home run ball" to describe it.

I really believe that the only non-liberal on the air for this radio station is Rush.

Kerry stole at least three lines from the Bush Cheney speeches of 2000

1/20 the speech was plagerized from someone or other. The other 19/20ths, all the boring parts were pure Kerry. Some days I think the best Bush strategy would be to spend his television money replaying boring Kerry speeches. With the voters terrified of 4 years of having to listen to that rot they will vote for anyone but.

After that first line, "I'm John Kerry and I'm....REPORTING FOR DUTY!)

And that was the most unsat, limp-wristed salute I've ever seen by a former military person, who should know better.

And Kerry's choke came on the heels of Edwards' choke the night before.

I'm John Kerry, and I'm reporting for duty. The thing I noticed was the guy either never knew how to salute or he forgot. Did any of you ex-servicemen or women notice his "salute". That wasn't the way I was taught to salute in the Air Force. The palm isn't horizontal; it is at a downward angle. Am I right or wrong?

This, from a guy who rarely reports for duty in the Senate.

NYTimes, thumbs down Washington Post, thumbs down Boston Globe, thumbs down CNN commentators Wednesday nite were highly critical of Edwards' speech. Is this a "for real"? I've seen no analysis this morning. If so, I am a happy man.

Kerry's acceptance speech was nothing more than a filibuster talk that failed to excite the delegates. I heard only one chant during the speech and that was "USA, USA, USA...", not "Kerry, Kerry, Kerry..." Enthusiasm seemed to be nonexistent especially with Theresa. She looked bored.
