A rancher in Elmendorf, southeast of San Antonio, found a strange creature attacking his livestock, and local animal experts say identifying it is a tough call.
Devin Macanally says he has lived on his ranch for 15 years and has never seen anything like it.
"It was eating mulberrys under a tree," he said.
It is a strange dog-looking creature with a blue color that he says began a killing spree. Devin first knew something was up when his chickens started disappearing. At one point, 35 were gone in just one day.
Macanally finally shot and killed the creature, and he was blown away at what he saw.

There are relatively good photos (of the dead animal) at the link. When he was asked about losing 30-35 chickens in one day, he corrected the questioner. He said that he lost them in thirty minutes. "They were still warm," he said. It was unclear whether the chickens were just killed, were partially eaten, or something else.
He indicated that he would like someone to definitively identify the animal, but has not had much help. The local zoos just said they didn't know what it was. A university told him to send them the animal's head.
Oh, yes, he said (on the radio interview) that it was pregnant.
Tinfoilpalooza.
I suspect the bunyip has immigrated from Australia.
Pinging u.
I'm not saying its true. But, I have my own blood-curddling X-files ewperiences from my Austin childhood that I will withold in order not to enter the odd world of Berlitz.... who, by the way has written about these sightings in his books. Badger? If you're reading this... you know what I mean.
Yeah right.
I'll always remember the story when I was a kid of Dogats -- a dog cat hybrid that was reported born in our local paper.
Needless to say it wasn't true.
I don't know what it is, but it's no Chupacabra.
No self respecting Chupa would be caught dead eating mulberries. Gnawing the face off of a black angus steer, maybe, but mulberries? Nah.
Aha! So it's nothing but a Chihuahua on steroids.
(must of gotten into Barry Bonds locker)
I'd like to hear your story. You're protected by your screen name. It's funny you should mention "kangaroo" because in the photos the front legs look kind of smaller and I am reminded of a kangaroo. I'd like to ask the man who shot the animal if it was on its hind legs when it was eating, or if it was on all fours.
Chupacabras are reported to have wings, but that may be just the myth that arose. I'm just baffled that first this animal in Maryland surfaces, and now this. Plus, if it's pregnant, well, there has to be a male, too, and probably more. How can an animal be hidden all this time? I find it fascinating.
Not to muddy the waters, but on the television interview with the woman at the little store in Elmendorf, the woman mentioned that the animal was shot "just after all those UFO sightings happened in Mexico."
RAAAAAAARRRRWWWWW!!!!!
Oh, I thought they said chimichanga. Never mind!
Soooo.....
A 20 or so pound (dog thingy) wiped out 35 chickens in a day?
Either:
A. It wasn't the dog-thingy
B. He's squirreled em away for late night snacks.
C. He's got one helluva tape worm.
D. Dude ain't too bright
lol
OK, I'll bite. What's a chupacapra?
Got you covered partner. I did a whole lot of research on that subject about three years ago
Get the paper bags, sounds like we're having a snipe hunt!
It's a mythical creature in the Mexican-American culture of south Texas/northern Mexico that supposedly sucks the blood of goats. Some people swear that they really exist. I can't remember all their supposed attributes. This animal, if it has remained hidden for all this time, kind of fits the description.
LOL! Beat me!!!
