Little opposition toward immigration measure (Protect Arizona Now)
KVOA ^ | 7/28/2004

Phoenix Latino leaders are so far giving a free pass to the Protect Arizona Now Initiative.

A lack of cash and unity has failed to counter the immigrant measure.

State Representative Ben Miranda of Phoenix says no one has come forward to challenge it, including unions and the Democratic Party.

Some are waiting to see if the immigrant measure makes the ballot.

Others expect voters to pass it.

Proposition 200, or more commonly known as Protect Arizona Now, would force all Arizonans to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote and show I-D when casting a ballot at the polls.

It would be a crime for state and local government employees to fail to report suspected undocumented immigrants seeking public benefits.

So is this Arizonan, his wife, his daughter voting for the first time, and both parents. That's five from my family alone.

It is real easy to stop the illegal invasion of our nation. Put 10-20 million "bouncing betty" anti-personel land mines on the border.

And because the area would be heavily mined, no first aid to be rendered. After a few of them get blown up, they'll get the idea that it isn't worth it to try to sneak across the border.

When you catch some "coyote" bringing through in a vehicle, take them to the desert and tell them to walk back through the minefield.

As soon as the border is mined, close all Mexican consulates in the United States and sever all diplomatic contact with Mexico. End of problem.

Perhaps I should register to keep the state of my birth from sinking into the abyss.

They're probably waiting to see if it passes. If it does, the democrats will be passing this off to their allies in the courts.

I expect it to pass. Its an ID verification measure and the opposition is in the weird position of saying you shouldn't present verifiable ID before you vote or get a government benefit. Heck, I have to present ID before I can withdraw money from the bank. Its simple common sense.

Let them go ahead. The measure provides for expedited consideration of any challenges to its constitutionally. It does not affect the right to vote or government services. What it does do is require citizens and permanent legal residents to confirm their status in this country. Almost every one has a drivers license and green card or birth/naturalization certificate. Any of these would be acceptable evidence of citizenship or legal resident status.

Racists is what a racist says. Just because you claim to be mexican doesnt mean you are not a racist. Come on we all know you hate America, especially white America. Remember that America is red, white a blue - made up people with different ideas - just because Mexican-Americans et.al. voted for prop 200 doesnt make them bad. Sad, sad demoncrat.
