Doh! A deer!
Apparently hoping to outdo Hillary Clinton's improbable attempt to reinvent herself as a duck hunter, John Kerry has tried to avoid alienating supporters of gun rights by depicting himself as a deer hunter. Mark Steyn will have none of it.Steyn wrote in the London Telegraph yesterday:
"He was in Wisconsin the other day, pretending to be a regular guy, and was asked what kind of hunting he preferred. 'I'd have to say deer,' said the senator. 'I go out with my trusty 12-gauge double-barrel, crawl around on my stomach ... That's hunting.'
"This caused huge hilarity among my New Hampshire neighbours. None of us has ever heard of anybody deer hunting by crawling around on his stomach, even in Massachusetts. The trick is to blend in with the woods and, given that John Kerry already looks like a forlorn tree in late fall, it's hard to see why he'd give up his natural advantage in order to hunt horizontally.
Oh, Pooh
"Possibly his weird Vietnam nostalgia is getting out of control. Still, if I come across a guy in the woods in deer season inching through the undergrowth with a mouthful of bear scat, at least I'll know who it is," Steyn noted.
Considering that these days Kerry looks more like a bunny wabbit than Elmer Fudd, perhaps he could use a refresher course from Gun Owners of America, which, by the way, he still hasn't met with, despite his phony claim that he'd meet with any critical group.
IIRC, Kerry's double barrel is a Parker side-by-side valued at over $10,000. With full or even modified chokes, a 12 guage slug would turn it into metal spaghetti.
Yes!
In Michigan, if you draw a line across the middle of the lower peninsula from east to west, hunters must use shotguns below that line. The reason is that below that line are numerous cities and towns and rifle projectiles travel long distances.
BTW the term buckshot comes from hunting deer with shotguns.
Anyone in here interested in developing a wildcat round for the 12 gauge? I've got some ideas from some 40mm ammo that I think would drastically improve the performance of the shotgun to nearly that of the .50 BMG. Sniper type accuracy, with range to boot, plus without the rifling it's not a "destructive device".
...too bad he doesn't have his Wabbit Suit on...great picture! Sure acts like John Kerry...Oh m'gwad, was he in Viet Nam? Got four medals in less than four months you say? How.....??? Stole at least two Purple Hearts......naw, not this upstanding bag of botoxed bones.....
You learn something new every day. Deer hunting in upstate NY was done primarily with a 30.06, but that was over 40 years ago for me. I guess you have to careful eating the venison so you don't chomp down on any buckshot.
He must write himself up and issue himself another Purple Heart every time he skins a knee or scraps a knuckle; nothing serious, just enough to get himself another PH.
Caught-in-yet-another-lie-but-Clinton-and-Algore-proved-that-doesn't-matter ping.
The real question is, what the hell was he doing on his belly?
Not all terrain is hardwood bottom where you can see in any direction for 100 yards or more. Here on the coast of NC, the woods are so thick that a rabbit has a tough time getting through them.
A 12 ga. with 00 buck has put many a tenderloin in the freezer around here!
I WAS IN A CHAT ROOM LAST NIGHT AND THEY WAS GOING ABOUT KERRY VIETNAM HERO AND ALL HIS METALS. SO I ASK THEM TO SEND KERRY CAMPIAGN AND ASK THEM TO ASK KERRY TO RELEASE HIS MILITARY RECORD. THEY ALL GOT REAL QUITE. SO IF KERRY IS SUCH A HERO WHY NOT LET SEE. THEY HAD NO ANSWER.
They have been used for hunting deer since the 1800's.
That's why they're called "buck shot."
Get out much? Millions of hunter use shotgun slug rounds in states that do not permit hunting with a rifle or carbine like a 30'06 or a 30-30; due to projectile delivery limitations. Go to Winchester, Remington, Hornady or Speer, and do a search on "slugs."
Your point about the shot is dead on. I have actually seen folks pull out a pellet and set it to the side of their plate.
The biggest problem with shot is stopping power. Unless you enjoy tracking, slugs are the way to go.
Interesting. I didn't know that. Range distances aren't much of an issue here so no one I know does that. I prefer elk hunting myself.
Yeah, but you never snagged three Purple Hearts in Vietnam with two scratches and a band-aid, and two rich broads in America with a horse face.
Not exactly. A slug is what you have in you picture - a single solid shot of several hundred grain size. Buckshot is a round countaing multiple (9-12) small (28-32) caliber projectiles.
Buckshot is different from other shot (waterfowl, skeet, etc) only in the size of the projectiles (larger) and number per round (smaller)
My neighbor and I were just laughing about this. He suggested that someone ask Kerry if he's ever done any coon hunting.
I'm quite sure he would tell us of his days sitting in a "coon blind" waiting for a racoon to wander by.
i always got the shotgun until i learned to shoot accuratly, hmm i thought he had practice shooting civies in Nam.
