1. Yes, the border can be enforced. The nation of India, with less than a third of our resources, is completing it's project of securing three times the distance we need to. This can and should be done.
2. Not too complicated, as those were the standards prior to 1965's Immigration Reform Act.
3. Agree and have spoken of it more than once. We can help the Muslim-persecuted out better than we are.
4. Right. Look at Europe.
5. Biometric/fingerprint standards are already being put in place. Bush waived that for Mexico after the scanners were installed at great expense. As the increase in OTM infiltrators demonstrates we need those back on line. Other nations already hold us responsible for more than our share of the world's woes. Screw them (back).
6. I took this to mean that costs of processing illegals should be taken out of foreign aid to the illegal's country of origin (motivation to keep them down on the farm and out of our hair). You're correct that further measures beyond that would be extremely difficult at best.
7. A slave class? They are practically that now, just without papers. Bush's proposal ran closely along the same lines. I'm not down with restricting anyone to inviolate paths of occupation.
8. The Executive Office for Immigration Review has to be dismantled. This is the little-known DOJ agency who insures that the case isn't over until the illegal immigrant wins.
9. We can't deny emergency care but we can deduct it from foreign aid/loans.
10. How many miscreants do you think we have overseas? If our government picked up those tabs it would be a tremendous bargain compared to our present policy of BOHICA.
13. The idea is to bypass the corrupt EOIR (mentioned in #8) and liberal activist judges more sympathetic to aliens than citizens.
15. Border violators have a. Human Rights, and b. The right to humane deportation. The whole "Give Them Driver's Licenses" movement is really about granting aliens all the trappings of citizenship without its attached responsibilities.
18. Unfeasable due to logistics.
Imagine has spent a great deal of time and effort trying to create proactive guidelines. While I disagree with a few I commend him for trying while too many other people would rather give up, complain or go with the flow.
You maintain that removing welfare is the key to our dilemma. I believe it is but one of a set of disincentives that must be implimented to trigger mass exodus (denying driver's licenses, home loans and tuition breaks along with crackdowns on document fraud and criminal employers round out the strategy). As a martial artist you may appreciate Sun Tzu's advice to strike where and when the enemy is weak and never impede their route home.
Ok, I'll give the guy credit, he's made an effort, and put a lot of work into his list of proposals. I just don't happen to agree with most of them.
This is a source of consternation for Joe, but like most Texan's, I tend to view this issue as much ado about very little. I could go back and dig up the posts, but this is at the heart of a great deal of Joe's dislike for Texas.
Now, the million dollar question is: Why does Texas and California, both border states with extremely high hispanic populations, have such radically different perspectives on this issue?
When I first glanced at what Melas first wrote; I don't see a campaign against legal immigration winning any votes. I'd call it political suicide.
I was about to go off, then I noticed the word "Legal" instead of "illegal." That is true, the post Melas referred to talked about ending legal immigration too, which is wrong.
Then there was this talk of Liberal or not liberal based off this misunderstanding. I think we are all in agreement here.
I wouldn't throw around words like "stupid" so cavalierly. The reality this is talking about is that here in CA we have Emergency Rooms going bankrupt, closing their doors, or both all over the area. The reason isn't the illegals are coming in with exploding appendixes, its because they are coming in the with common colds. Their arrogance is infuriating. I feel guilty going to my doctor, who I'm paying, for something that MIGHT be wasting his time, let along clogging up an emergency room, coupled with doing so knowing you aren't going to pay a dime. Its a major problem here, I would even call it a crisis. I am quite sure citizens with true emergencies have died on route to hospitals that were farther away because of these illegals selfish behavior.
Legal immigration needs to be dramatically reduced and reformed too, IMO...When we have more jobs than people, let um in.
I swear it's Rome all over again (hence my screen name). I have no intention of rolling over for the Visigoths.
I have no intention of rolling over for the Visigoths.
** Good for YOU. Me neither...now if more people did that then everyone would get the message.
That's because the post I was replying to suggested a campaign against both legal and illegal immigration. Campaigning against legal immigration is a sure way to lose votes in my opinion. No one I know is against legal immigration.
Thank you, She-Hulk. Just don't go crushing lefty protesters with handy automobiles. Hey, Jabba the Hut's talking to Bill O'Reilly! Wait, let me put my glasses on. Oh, it's Michael Moore. Shoulda' known - Jabba makes better sense when he talks.
I like your screen name.
Yes, I already understood that, hence my interceding on your behalf. You should have made the word legal more prominent, it was easy to misunderstand, I almost did myself.
Thanks, your intelligent thinking is appreciated.
Nail on the Head award for you here. You're absolutely right. Illegals go to hospitals for routine care. Yes, some for emergencies no question. But, anyone can raise the extreme issue to prevent the logical solution anytime.
My playground. And, no, I don't play well with others.
Right = write (Late nite)
I'll agree with that, but now it's gone far beyond that. All of our immigration policies, including for those entering legally, need to be reformed now.
A Congressman from Texas just released recently unclassified information that terrorist have entered the United States through Texas, illegally crossing our border in *large* numbers. So much for the WOT protecting us 7000 miles away.
And the 14 band members that were on that flight recently from Syria, you know, the one that some claimed the passengers overreacted?
They not only found they had expired visas, one of their top songs it was discovered today after being interpreted by investigators, was called *The Martyr* It was a song about a terrorist, celebrating his efforts and his death.
Looking at that photo, I can't help but think that just 50 or so men could secure that area easily, with the right equipment, vehicles, como etc.....
That was my post. I don't think legal immigration should be ended. But it is due for serious reform. The "diversity" lottery, Section 245i, immigration from known terrorist countries, limits on immigration from the UK, et al, should all be done away with or seriously updated.
And given that the past decade has seen the greatest numbers of immigrants in history, we could afford to slow it down a notch.
