Jewish Leader Warns of 'Growing US Moslem Community'; CAIR Calls on Hoenlein to Step Down From Leadership of Umbrella Group
WASHINGTON, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on Malcolm Hoenlein, director of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, to step down from his post following revelations that he made anti-Muslim comments to an Israeli media outlet.
In an interview with Israel's Maariv newspaper, Hoenlein seemed to indicate that he viewed the growth of the Muslim community in America as a threat.
Hoenlein said: "Europe is the current Moslem battlefield, but America is their ultimate goal. There are already 10 Moslem schools in New York, and my feeling is that despite growing post-9/11 awareness, there is still a degree of naivete among Americans. I warned against the growing US Moslem community 10 years ago, but nobody understood it then. It is estimated that there are currently around 10 million Moslems in the US illegally and the authorities are finding it very difficult to find them. It's like a game of cat and mouse."

"These bigoted and inflammatory remarks, which label all American Muslims as a threat to our nation, are unworthy of a person who represents a community that has itself been persecuted because of such hate-filled stereotypes," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad. "Mr. Hoenlein must either disavow the quoted statements, or he should immediately step down from his leadership post."
Awad said failure to remove Hoenlein from his position would indicate that Islamophobic propaganda is accepted by the organizations he represents. "Interfaith leaders and elected officials must repudiate Mr. Hoenlein's remark for giving aid and comfort to hate-mongers. Religious freedom and ethnic diversity helped make American what it is today. Voices of division must be condemned by all people of goodwill," said Awad.
CAIR, America's largest Islamic civil liberties group, has 28 regional offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada.
But warns ICJ decision should not be taken complacently. Says European Jewry needs to be more proactive in combating anti-Semitism.
Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in the USA, calls upon Israel to continue constructing the separation barrier, yet warns about the harsh implications of the resolution adopted by the UN concerning this issue.
He also called upon Jewish communities in Europe to wake up and start taking proactive measures to enhance Israel's position in Europe.
Hoenlein, US Jewry's most prominent leader, paid a flash 48-hour visit to Israel during which he met with the prime minister, senior ministers, Labor chairman Shimon Peres, the head of the GSS and US ambassador to Israel, Dan Kurtzer.
In an interview with Maariv, Hoenlein stressed the importance of reading the terms of the Court's ruling in the Hague. "The Israeli public fails to understand the importance and the possible implications of this ruling. I would not like my grandchildren to one day open a history book only to learn that Israel committed crimes against humanity".
"This ruling presents Israel as an illegitimate state and this is what will go down in the annals of history. We should not underestimate this ruling, as it confers the power on quasi- government and semi-official bodies to call for boycotting Israel. Even if a US veto in the UN Security Council prevents officially imposed sanctions on Israel, the damage to Israel could still prove enormous. Europeans are liable to demonstrate their aversion to Israel's behavior by boycotting Israel's products. The international community needs to wake up and protest ludicrousness of the entire affair, as tomorrow there may be similar rulings against the US," says Hoenlein.
According to Hoenlein, despite the widely supported UN General Assembly resolution, Israel should continue erecting the separation barrier. "A country should not sacrifice the security of its citizens on the altar of its public image. The fence works and Israel's first priority is to protect its people."
Regarding Israel's isolation in the international community and America's precarious position as Israel's sole ally, Honlein says, "This is indeed problematic. We won't always be able to rely on a US veto. America's support for Israel is currently very solid but no one can foresee what will happen in the future".
According to Hoenlein, had Israel sent a representative to The Hague, the outcome would not have been significantly different. "I think that the Court's ruling was determined long before the judges even heard the charges. How else can one explain the actions of the British Judge who issued harsh criticism against her colleagues and their legal claims, yet signed the final anti-Israel decisions without any reservations?
Hoenlein says that world Jewry is in a position to take various forms of action to counter Israel's global isolation. "Most countries in the Caribbean vote against Israel systematically, yet most of its tourists are Jewish. I am not suggesting a boycott, because I am against such action. However, I estimate that US Jewry will express their anger by canceling their Caribbean vacations. I hope too that Jewish communities in Europe will take a more proactive stance in improving Israel's image."
Hoenlein supports Sharon's call to French Jews to immigrate to Israel. "Why should Sharon abstain from talking about Aliyah? Why was Israel established if not to encourage Jews to live here? Chirac was obviously seeking an excuse to attack Israel or to get rid of some of the steam after all the anti-Semitic events in France. French Jewry should also wake up, they are too apologetic. Sharon is constantly calling upon US Jews to immigrate and nobody has declared him a persona non grata. It is natural to appeal to France's Jews, who are suffering from anti-Semitism, "If you don't feel safe, come to Israel."
Hoenlein says that the Moslem community in the USA is growing steadily. "Europe is the current Moslem battlefield, but America is their ultimate goal. There are already 10 Moslem schools in New York, and my feeling is that despite growing post-9/11 awareness, there is still a degree of naiveté among Americans. I warned against the growing US Moslem community 10 years ago, but nobody understood it then. It is estimated that there are currently around 10 million Moslems in the US illegally and the authorities are finding it very difficult to find them. It's like a game of cat and mouse."

Gee, I wonder where he got that idea?
I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future. But I'm not going to do anything violent to promote that. I'm going to do it through education.
Ibrahim Hooper
And I wouldn't bet on the non-violent part.
The leftwing of the Dem Party is willing to create an alliance with the US Muslims. When will the American Jews realize that once the Muzzies gain some power they will be hunting Jews down on the street and beat them up like it is happening in Europe. Once that Muzzie become a voting bloc in the Democratic party, the Dems will not say a word about violence against Jews. Just look what happen in Crown Heights in New York City during a black pogrom against the Jews in Brooklyn. The NYC Dem mayor and party did not dare to say a word or send the police in for 48 hours. Atleast that riot was triggered by a car accident. The Muzzies do not need a car accident to attack Jews. Armed with protection from political party, they will attack Jews in Democratic Leftwing controlled cities. Liberal Jews better wake up, because it will be the Democratic Party who will let their throats get cut.
When it comes to CAIR, I am adopting Teresa Kerry's attitude: hey CAIR, shut up and shove it!
Kerry could spend three nights in a Motel 6 with Arafat and Liberal American Jews would still vote Democrat.
Islamophobic? Heck, yes!
You couldn't be more right. Left wing Jews must have a death wish. Their continued support of the Democratic party, despite its obvious anti-Israel leanings, is mystifying. I guess they're like the Jews who kept saying "but we're good Germans!" right up until they were loaded onto the boxcars. Sad and pathetic.
Let's not allow our enemies to define the terms.
Let's use the correct word: Islamognostic (knowledgeable about Islam), or perhaps Islamocognoscentic (knowing Islam). (Guessing at the Greek. I'd like to use something like "Misandry/Misogeny" with "mis-" being hatred or somesuch.)
Someone with knowledge of Greek help a guy out, here. ;)
Okay, you work on the Greek but I still think Islamophobic fits. I mean, I really hate wasps but I also fear them. Besides, I don't want CAIR to appropriate a perfectly good term.
On another note, somehow Nihad Awad's little speech brought to mind Kang and Kodos(Dole&Clinton) from The Simpsons. ;^)
Phonetically, it would sound something like, 'Nufahskitah, allybabba.' I think that is the equivalent of 'shove it.'
Good idea. I use homoskeptic and euroskeptic (when speaking of myself) instead of the -phobe versions which can be hostages to fortune in debate. Islamoskeptic is a good addition.
Some of them will let their throats be cut rather than offend the gods of PC sensibility.
Unfortunately, 'some' in the Jewish community have long and bloody history of selling out their brethren for personal interests.
tru peace...D
I prefer to call it the war on islmofascism. It seems to fit a bit of the historical context in regards to the tactics utilized so brilliantly by the nazis. In addition, some Muslims have a long history based on support from the nazis before and during WW2.
btw...Just another excellent reason to end the AWB
tru peace...D
As to Stupor Hooper, I f*rt on his half shaven beard! There is no god named allah, and Mohammed was a false prophet! Allahu Fubar!
Allow me to clarify Mr. Hoenleins statement.
The growth of the Muslim community in America is a threat.
You are going to be very surprised this year about the Jews. Mark my words. I have liberal Jewish friends who say they either won't vote or will vote for Brown. Some even acknowledged Bush is the best friend Israel has. I'm not saying majority, but a heck of a lot more than last time.
