U.S. consumer confidence surges to 106.1 in July By Rex Nutting
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- U.S. consumer confidence improved sharply in July, the Conference Board said Tuesday. The board's consumer confidence index jumped to 106.1 in July from a revised 102.8 in June, a two-year high. Economists were expecting a flat reading of about 102. The big improvement came in the expectations index, which rose to 105.8 in July from 100.8. The present situation index increased to 106.5 in July from 105.9. "The spring turnaround has been fueled by gains in employment, and unless the job market sours, consumer confidence should continue to post solid numbers," said Lynn Franco, head of the board's consumer research unit. Consumers' views were mixed, but generally optimistic.
Make a cheerful ping unto the multitudes, dudes!!!
That loud noise y'all hear this AM was the A$$HOLES of the libretards slamming shut nationwide reading this story!
Women and minorities harmed the most.
It's all Bush's fault.
Oh.
Wait.
Good news.
Nver mind, we'll just ignore this.
Volume has been picking up in the stock market after slow volume and horrible performance over the last few months. The Dow is up 67 and NASD up 16. Keep your fingers crossed.
H. Hoover would be proud< sarcasm on>
The dems are trying a bait-and-switch. Get people off talking about the economy and on talking about Iraq, where they think they can win the argument.
Two problems with that dim dem strategy:
1. They can't win the argument on Iraq.
2. People can't help but notice the booming economy.

Dollar gets boost from U.S. confidence data By Rachel Koning
CHICAGO (CBS.MW) -- The U.S. dollar rose against its major rivals following release of a report showing a jump in the monthly measure of consumer confidence to a two-year high. The dollar gained 0.7 percent against the Japanese yen at 110.63 yen per dollar. The greenback was up 0.2 percent against Europe's shared currency, with the euro quoted at $1.2112. The Conference Board's consumer confidence index jumped to 106.1 in July from a revised 102.8 in June. Economists were expecting a flat reading of about 102.
I know we're not supposed to get overconfident, but being confident isn't a bad thing, either, because it makes us see reality.
The reality is nothing is guaranteed and we must vote, and get out the vote.
But considering how all Kerry's got going for him is his military service, there isn't a lot to convince me Kerry's going to win. People are going to see the man did NOTHING in 20 years in the Senate--when will the media reveal that little fact? Never, but Bush's ads will have to do it.
All Kerry's got is a grab bag of inconsistent positions. He comes across as not conservative enough for conservatives, yet not moderate--he comes across as politically expedient, aka untrustworthy. And believing the president is a good leader is very important to those moderate voters.
The great middle are the ones who have to be convinced. I can't tell you how many times I've had to play the Devil's Advocate in political discussions, because people who know I love W say "I don't LIKE him, BUT..." they will vote for W. And I love in Boston.
I jsut have this sense that the New York convention could very well cement a substantial Bush lead, as it will cement Bush as the president who fights terror, period.
Hell, according to the spiel last night from the Sperminator we are in a depression.
"Worst Economy Ever" bump.
How can this be true? Senator Pinhead just said the economy was a "shambles".
We are almost at the end of the cycle. Notice only the most radical lying dims are "talking down" the economy now.
The elecion will be decided based on perception of who is best to handle natinal security and the situation in Iraq. IMO, this means GW wins by at least six points.
-- Every Democrat, Summer of 1997.
Its becoming more apparent with each passing month that average Americans don't subscribe to the Democrats view of the economy, or the future.
You don't buy a house if you are worried about your job. You don't buy a home if you are worried about the economy imploding.
Kerry's only theme thats remotely viable is "I hate Bush, too!"
And that won't win this election, folks.
Yeah... I sure didn't hear Algore yellin "Everything that should be up... Is Down! And everything that should be down... Is Up!" He looked like a fat blubbering bitter boob, last night!!!
"worst economy since the 'Great Depression'."
I thought that was after Ronald Reagen that was the worst.
No, I am sorry, it was after Bush the elder that was the worst since the great depression.
I wish these knuckle heads would make up their minds!
