NETWORK ANCHORS EXPRESS DISAPPOINTMENT IN CONVENTION AIR TIME
Drudge Report ^ | 7/25/04 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 07/25/2004 6:22:57 PM PDT by wagglebee

Harvard's Joan Shorenstein Center was the scene Sunday for anchormen to lament the lack of network coverage for this week's convention.

The parties "have to think about how to reconstruct the conventions," said NBC Brokaw.

"They've been drained of all their vitality."

ABC Jennings claimed that "under the current circumstances, there isn't great reason for us to show up," for more than an hour or two a night.

But PBS Lehrer rebuked the big three, according to Monday's BOSTON GLOBE.

"I think that starting tomorrow, we're going to have four of the eight most important days we can have as a nation," said Lehrer, criticizing CBS's Dan Rather, ABC's Peter Jennings, and NBC's Tom Brokaw for not getting more air time. "I'm sorry. You guys are a hell of a lot more important than your bosses are willing to admit."

Addressing the challenges of covering politics in a politically polarized environment, CBS Rather stated that "fear has increased in every newsroom in America," and added that reporting on explosive issues can bring a torrent of e-mails and phone calls. That can lead to a situation, he said, in which journalists conclude that "when you run this story, you're asking for trouble with a capital 'T'. . . Why run it?"

Ratherbiased, Jennings, Brokaw and the rest are just upset that they can't fawn all over Kerry and the other 'rats and then next month pretend the Republican convention isn't even happening.

I think the Press is scared to death about what's going to happen at the Dem Convention. The sound bytes, the words that can never be taken back...they are a party OUT OF CONTROL and the Press just doesn't know how to spin it anymore.

They're worried that this could turn into another Janet Jackson-Super Bowl disaster for them.

Actually these guys are bitchin because the conventions are no longer "good TV". But if good TV made good government, Jennifer Anniston would be President.

The Democrats are having a convention? You would think there would have been something about it on TV today.

Let the dying broadcast networks show their silly sitcoms, dramas and reality shows. People who want to see the conventions can watch serious news networks like Fox News or C-SPAN.

The newsreaders (Brokaw, Jennings, Rather) on the dying network broadcasts are overpaid and unnecessary. Their jobs ought to be eliminated.

Thank God! Every time I turn on FOX, I see skank TV. All Democrat, all the time.
If I wanted to see that, I'd turn on the Jerry Springer show. Besides, I have children. There's just some things young minds shouldn't be allowed to see.

No. What they are worried about is that the real nature of the demonRAT party will be seen by the public--you know, the queer-loving, pro-abortionist, tree-hugging, radical communist, anti-American block that makes up the core of the demonRAT base, and CBSNBCABCCNN cannot let that happen.
