Went into a CompUSA in Columbia, MD today and, while shopping, noticed a movie trailer for Fahrenheit 911 running on several PCs and MACs...
Guess I'm just a bad boy.
Yes. You are. All true Mac addicts are early adopters who go to the store at midnight and buy the next release on the day it comes out. Try to do better with Tiger, okay?
Regards
Also advise them that running/advertising F911 before the november election runs afoul of campaign finances laws and its display is a campaign contribution and thus regulated by the FEC.
I don't have a problem with anyone having their political opinion, but when they shove it in my face, I'll tell them what I think.
Guillermo: Sorry to say this, but if you do not believe in freeping... what the heck are you doing around freepers?
That must be why you keep posting on this thread.
There's no troll like an old troll.
I FReeped 'em till they bled...heheh.
I will keep everyone in the loop.
Here's what I do know -- the approved demo for Macs has nothing to do with Micheal Moore. The only real "person" that I can recall the Mac demo promoting would be the Incredible Hulk, and even then I think it's more for purposes of showing off the awesome graphics power of a G5, not a political endorsement. Although the Hulk would probably lean to the right, but that's a differant discussion altogether.
The purpose of the demo isn't intended for any kind of political message. To use it as such is simply inappropriate. Why risk offending someone who is coming in and looking at a five thousand dollar Mac because you have political leanings in ANY direction?
I understand the power of something like an online boycott, speaking as a former purchaser of Heinz products (and to be honest, I do miss their ketchup). And it would be one thing if there was indeed a company policy that says we are trying to get a certain kind of demographic customer base. But there isn't, just a bunch of instances where perhaps the individuals in charge of certain departments decide to abitrate matters for themselves and alientate the consmers in the process.
I would recommend that if you do wish to take some form of constructive action against it, find out the name of the General Manager at the store in question and begin by explaining your feelings as a consumer to him. The General Manager of the store or stores in question would be able to handle the situation and if it's still unresolved you can move it up from there. But I would let the GMs get a chance to take care of it first.
On my end, I'll ask my boss to contact his division boss to bring it to thier attention. Hopefully it's just a situation where the right people, once alerted, can make it an enjoyable experiance again, which we do try to make it.
Also, my daughter's eMac was having a bootup problem. We took it to the local CompUSA. They initially said it was a power supply problem. They kept it for a week, said it booted fine and returned it (they hadn't done anything, as it booted up for them).
The problem recurred, and I took it to the Apple Store in Austin. I told the tech what the CompUSA guys said. He smiled, turned the computer over, opened the hatch, reseated the memory and showed me a reset switch. He told me "I'm not saying power supplies never go bad on a Mac, but it's pretty unusual." He didn't even write up a ticket, ask how old the computer was, or even my name.
The point is, the CompUSA guys were going to take the computer apart and replace internal parts for absolutely no reason. I bought several computers from there because they were the only Mac dealer in town, but from now on, everything I buy is direct from Apple. Service, also.
Probably more than half. You don't see too many illiterate or semiliterate welfare recipients buying computers.
CompUSA is now owned by a Mexican Company which may explain the 911 fiasco.
I've spent the evening with "cocktail" trying to undo some of the years of harm that I have done to my Imac.
When my father decided to drop MCI long distance at the office, the woman at their call center asked why, and my father said it was due to the Danny Glover ads. About a week later, he was called by a survey company and asked why he had dropped his MCI long distance service. He said it was due to the Danny Glover ads. Within a week, Danny Glover was fired by MCI. Pressure works.
Don't let anybody on this board discourage you from taking action to make your conservative political sentiments known, calling your efforts "silly."
That would be like a church member or pastor calling evangelism and outreach silly. And we know how ludicrous *that* would be.
Actually, Fry's does have an internet shopping service. It's called Fry's Outpost. I have shopped them successfully and have been very happy with the service.
http://www.outpost.com/
If you see error in the way the evangelism and outreach is being done, it wouldn't be wrong to point it out. Have you studied the "The Purpose Driven Church" movement?
No. But I am stunned to find people on FR appearing to try to discourage the kinds of action that have been suggested so far w/r/t CompUSA. If FR is nothing else, it is a place where people who believe in letter writing for conservative causes can meet, share ideas and act. Anyone who feels it is their job to discourage that is very far off base, imho. Don't even try.
Please let us know the outcome, Ueriah.
If a person has a bad experience with a particular store that is taking advantage of their customers by showing "Farenheit 911", then they have every right to speak up to the store, and even boycott it. It has been proven very effective on this forum to speak with dollars. That's the only thing that a business responds to. I pulled several hundred thousand dollars out of Charles Schwab, because they decided that Harry Belafonte should speak his anti-American garbage at their annual meeting. I disagreed, and moved all my accounts to another firm that keeps its nose out of liberal politics.
I congratulate you; that was very effective action.
