'NO-SHOW JOHN' BURNS BEANTOWN
New York Post ^ | July 25, 2004 | Howie Carr

July 25, 2004 -- BOSTON

So far, John Kerry has been an onlooker at his own convention.

Every day last week, the already- dark mood of his hometown grew surlier, as the extent of the convention's massive disruptions of daily life became ever more apparent. But the man who would lead the Free World essentially went MIA.

He spent several days in serene splendor at the $10-million oceanfront mansion on Nantucket that his second wife inherited from her first husband. The senator windsurfed by day and hobnobbed with the Beautiful People by night, pedaling his $8,000 Serotta bicycle into the village for dinner at one or another of the island's fancy restaurants.

Meanwhile, in the sweltering city, the heavy lifting of actually averting total chaos was left to two local pols — Boston's Democratic Mayor Thomas Menino and GOP Gov. Mitt Romney.

Carr sure sums up why this could be a pretty ugly convention even though we all know Senator Kerry is the nominee.

Kerry is starting to sound like an American version of Prince Charles.

In the meantime they have the Gitmo cages et up for protesters behind the convention center where they wont be seen. Funny how the Dems fight free speech by hiding protesters,

It's a long shot, but maybe the Boston folks will be so pissed about the virtual shutdown of their city that they'll vote for Bush in November. A very long shot.

Kerry is just one of the common people?

"He thinks he's acting presidential," said one Democrat at the State House. "But the reality is, he's been ducking and everybody knows it. This is just reinforcing the impression that he's not an executive, he's a legislator. The only decision he ever has to make is what wine to order with dinner."

Ooof! That has to hurt! It's delicious irony when Kerry's own home town starts to turn on him. Poetic justice.

Wouldn't it be great to see Protest Warrior footage of the protestors behind bars?

LOL. That cage resembles the pens put up in England to rein in Soccer Hooligans.

We can hope!

Boston is going into near-total lockdown tonight. The flashing road signs say it all: EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS. And not just on the highway. The major commuter-rail station closed Friday night. Many subway commuters will be dumped onto buses, which will then head out into utter gridlock.

Traffic helicopters are grounded. Even the commuter boats have been ordered to halt their runs. Pregnant women have been told to find suburban hospitals for their deliveries. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments have been canceled, along with all elective surgery.

Maybe I'm being too dense. I STILL can't figure out who the DIMS are expecting that would require all that caging. The place where violence has really been threatened is in NYC at the PUB convention. To me it's all smoke an mirrors. Trying to set themselves up as victims ahead of time.

BTW, anyone know how long the Toons will be around tomorrow? And if they hung out the whole time at the last convention?

Kerry is just one of the common people?

I wonder did you read the Friday, July 23, 2004 edition of USA Today. Their discussion about the changing nature of Nantucket Island (where Senator Kerry's wife Teresa owns a US$10,000,000 mansion, of all things!) shows that even the folks in the state of Massachusetts are not exactly too thrilled about Senator Kerry's rich elite status, either.

From the article: Pregnant women have been told to find suburban hospitals for their deliveries. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments have been canceled, along with all elective surgery.

Guess if you are a dialysis patient, you're SOL.

As Carr points out, elists like Kerry and Kennedy are above such matters. The reality is, having never held a real job in their life, their real-world problem solving abilities don't exist. JFK might be useful as a Sommelier or Maître d for wealthy women, but not much else.
