BERGER GETS GRILLED: HIS UNLIKELY STORY (truth is he stole secret documents for political reasons)
NY POST ^ | 7/25/04 | LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

--SNIP--

Here we have yet another Clintonite involved in unlawful behavior, more "misplaced" documents and a lame attempt to blame it all on an innocent bureaucratic snafu ("Bubba's Boy Berger," Editorial, July 22). And yet, other than from conservatives, there's been little outrage. Can anybody imagine Condi Rice stuffing critical, sensitive and potentially damning security documents into her bra, taking them home and then destroying them? It's hard to imagine. But if anything similar had been perpetrated by a Bush administration official, we all know the Democrats would be foaming at the mouth, screaming for hearings and demanding the impeachment of the president. Gregg Nelson Chester, N.J.

Do you think Michael Moore will make a movie out of the Sandy Berger caper? As a registered Republican, I want to thank Berger for giving us a Democratic version of the Watergate break-in. Joseph Briglia Toms River, N.J.

--SNIP--

.......there must have been a political reason for his taking the documents in the first place. Richard Reay The Bronx

Berger, a Democrat, takes more than top-secret documents from the National Archives, and somehow the Republicans are being made out as the bad guys. John McKiernan West Haven, Conn.

Old Sandy the Burglar did not make any decisions he was not instructed to make.

Old Sandy the Burglar was following instructions and that is what he probably was removing the handwritten notes written by someone else.

Who is it that stands to loose the most if their handwriting was found on the documents??????

Berger--- as Ntl Security Advisor---was charged with cluing Clinton in to all of the vagaries regarding US security issues.

I do believe Clinton was remiss when he took Berger's advice not to take out Osama.

Of course how Berger came to this conclusion remains a gnawing question.

Berger was actually trying to pilfer the original copy of the Constitution, but he ran out of bathroom breaks.

Speaking of Sandy Pants, I wonder what the Jersey Girls will have to say about the REPEATED theft of documents. Will they have something to say about Berger, was it about their lost husbands, or was it just about trashing G.W.?

Berger's attorneys leaked this story on Monday night knowing full well that the 9/11 Commission Report would overshadow Berger's wrongdoing.

And yet, the Republicans are made to be the wrong guys. The media questions the timing of the leak vs. the substance of the leak.

On the Chris Matthews shows last week a staunch democrat named ?? O'COnnell said that everyone knew that Berger's attorney called John Solomon at the AP Monday night to leak the story and the GOP had nothing to do with it.

On another show, Mark Levin said that Solomon was the go to guy at the AP the Clintons used when they had to get damaging info out into the public domain.

bjclinton may well have been clueless about what was going on, however, his in name only wife was not. IMO there was nothing that was going on that this woman did not have a say in.

I have read that during the Millennium time frame that there were daily meetings at the White House with Sandy the Burglar, Tenet, DOJ, Pentagon, and Richard Clarke.

Sandy the Burglar had to answer to somebody and I do not believe that he was given the power to make any decision with out approval of the powers that was.

Now Hillry wants to be president and I personally have no doubt that she had a say in everything that went on except bjclinton's "sex" addiction. It is not plausible that these meetings were going on and she was not involved.

That would be a breach of attorney client privilege ... unless Berger gave approval to his attorney in writing no attorney ... no matter how sleazy would jeopardize his practice in this way. Lanny Davis, Clinton's go to butt-boy, is the one who leaked the Berger story ... with an e-mail to the 'Rat talking heads that would be defending Berger ... to work the suspicious timing angle.

Unfortunately the acts perpetuated during the Clinton administration will have an adverse impact on America for generations to come.

I think the leak was designed to try and put the President on guard, giving the "timing" ploy as a method to question President Bush about what he knew and when he knew it.

The media can now downplay the gravity of stealing "top secrets" with questioning whether this is a political targeting of dems with criminal investigation.

The Clintons are masters of deception and they have an all too willing flock of media whores willing to muddy the water.

The reaction of both Clintons tells that they were both aware of this "criminal investigation", and bjclinton seemed the least worried about it.

No it's worse. Watergate was a break-in of a private office. This is a break-in of the National archives. Much worse. Hang him.

That Bill Clinton made a statement within 24 hours of the leak tells me he knows a lot more about it than he is letting on. But, I don't remember hearing anything out of Hillary. Did she say anything about Berger?

The media questions the timing of the leak vs. the substance of the leak.

This is a curious tactic for the media and the liberals to take on this issue. What's so special about the timing of Berger's crimes against America by stealing secret documents? Except for the fact that Berger was an advisor (?) to Kerry, there is nothing noteworthy about the timing involved in the leak about his thefts. I mean, the convention is next week and that will allow the lamestreams to push the Berger thefts off the front page, if it appears at all.

Which tells me that the liberals and the press got caught with their pants down and have no other accusations to make against the Bush Administration. Try as they might to slough this off as no big deal, Americans are smarter and know better and they know that this IS a big deal. Even though Clinton got a pass from the media for selling America out to the Chinese, Americans don't like thieves, don't like people who betray us and don't like anyone who steals classified documents.

I think poster Liz called it correctly - the Dems have their own Watergate on their hands and the 'Pubbies need to press it for all it's worth. Borrow Dem tactics and everytime a 'Pubbie has a mic shoved in their face to answer a question about the Iraq War - drag the Berger theft into it. If a 'Pubbie pol tells the media he/she has hemorrhoids, they need to drag Berger's name into it. Make the Dems/Clintons sweat over their bungled efforts to re-write history and cleanse Bill's "legacy".

"She should ask her husband what he knows about the leak."

OR maybe he should ask her what she knows, however, considering just knowing about the theft puts the knower in violation of the statue, I imagine that their discussions will be considered "pillow" talk.
