The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Group linked to al Qaeda warns of 'columns of car bombs'

Australia and Italy have received warnings through a statement purportedly from militants linked to al Qaeda that demanded those countries withdraw troops from Iraq.

Re TM XIV, I had the same "tin foil" question as you. BTW, tin foil hats are so 50's. Have you tried the new titanium hats with the kelvar lining? Expensive, sure, but well worth the extrra cost. : )

Gang - after thread 14 got yanked last night, I started thinking about some alternatives.

What do you guys think about setting up our very own home for TM outside of FR?

There'd be a lot of benefit for us to do this that I was thinking about last night, but the main thing is that we could have a dedicated spot on the Web for The Threat Matrix, and organize things by topic instead of multiple incarnations of one huge thread. (Although we wouldn't HAVE to do it this way if we just wanted to keep "TM, thread 962", etc).

This would make it easier to find things than having to read through thousands of posts to find out, for example, if anything happened in a particular topic any of us were interested in.

I think we could do this easily (I'm a Web guy by trade, so have access to all of the freeware Bulletin Board software and know how to set it up. I also run several other large websites already on a volunteer basis). I don't think the bandwidth charges would amount to much, and may even be able to fund it myself. (I would consider doing this as I think TM is a VERY important resource and we need a place to discuss without being threatened by those trying to take it down, as well as having a place to post the various images, video clips, etc that people like SP2BF, Jill, Piper and others find).

If we did this, we could let people like our very own Piper be the Mods (if she wanted) or whoever wants to pitch in (I don't necessarily want the job but would be willing to setup the site).

Just a suggestion - I think the organization aspect (having multiple threads dealing with different stories, etc and our own space for images and AVIs) might be pretty nice. We could even have our own collection of links and graphics (like the awesome work contributed by TMers & their families here) on our "front page". It would also cut down on having to read through hundreds/thousands of posts each day, since everything could be (but wouldn't HAVE to be if we didn't want it) in it's own "Topic".

I've already setup a similar board for another project I'm involved in, and this would all be pretty easy to do.

What do you guys all think?

- J

Isn't "Shehada" someone who dies for jihad, often translated "martyr"? (Although I object to the use of that word since a Christian martyr is something very different).

good to see everyone back.

I really don't see Boston being attacked - it just doesn't fit into AQ's political agenda.

being in NY, I frankly fear things the protestors will do during the convention here, more then AQ. all you need is a series of M80 explosions going off in the bathrooms of large department stores like Macy's, and some smoke bombs on the subways - and all hell will break loose here.

I said that I was not going to post here again, but I cannot let you guys get misled. The post from Its Happening
originally came from my site:

http://www.homelandsecurityus.net/visions_of_america.htm

Aljernaan AKA John Bell Michaels, and a host of other names added a few of her/his comments and posted it on globalislamicmedia.com without crediting the source. Either she/he or someone else posted it on the EOM board, and then it was posted on IH. The entire web page was posted on my site July 17th and can be viewed at the above link.

I suggest all use extreme caution in what is posted at Aljernaan's site. Modifications are made and the source is not given. And she (he) is not all that they appear.

I don't think so either. All of our security resources will be focused in Boston and they know that. IMO, they will strike somewhere else during the convention. I don't think it will be a large city. If you read the threat to Australia/Italy, it clearly said the method would be lines of car bombs coming to your towns. I think that is the method they will use here. Simultaneous car bombs in towns where we're not expecting it.

Excerpts from threat:

'Al-Qaeda' threatens Australia

From AP
July 25, 2004

"We call upon you to leave Iraq before your country turns to pools of blood," the statement warned the Australian Government.

"We will shake the earth under your feet as we did in Indonesia, and lines of car bombs will not cease, God willing."

"We advise you to accept our offer and if you don't, you will see the lines of cars laden with explosives hit your towns and turn your nights to mornings, God willing. We swear you will see hell with your eyes."

I'd imagine that to a moderator, the TM and the posters are all pretty much in one basket. It's easily understood when you consider the other thread issues as well as the vampires among us.

An expression of gratitude to the moderators would be proper, considering the level of effort they put in to managing this HUGE thread. The drive by "report abuse" spammers and other issues they deal with would probably make me want to nuke the thread myself. When you combine that with vicious assaults, I'd probably rebel against modding it, for the rest of forever.

These people are defending the thread in a manner and on levels that we can't see. We're not left to our own devices, we're carried around pretty safely. We only see their direct interaction with the thread. We don't see the constant drudge work.

This isn't just about thread vs. poster, this is about exactly how much work that our existence puts on the shoulders of others. There is no way that we can blame anyone for saying "enough is enough". No matter how it's dealt with, there will always be someone to complain about it.

These people are not our enemies, they are our protectors. They should be treated as such.
