SECURITY was stepped up to protect Tour de France race leader Lance Armstrong after the American received threats before the Alpe d'Huez stage midweek, race director Jean-Marie Leblanc revealed today.
"There were threats against Lance Armstrong and we took these into account," said Leblanc, without giving details of the threats.
Hundreds of thousands of spectators lined the 15.5km climb up the legendary Alpe d'Huez on Wednesday to see Armstrong move closer to a record sixth Tour de France title.

After watching that time trial, I don't see how Lance could have been protected. He has even more guts than I have dreamed.

The French cannot even protect themselves, much less Lance. The Europeans hate any winner from the U.S..

A foreigner is safer in America than an American abroad. Europe has no room to wag the finger at "ugly Americans" as we're far and beyond more civilized than they are.

The Olympics are going to be a real hatefest for the Euros this year.

I stated in another thread that I thought that Lance was in danger. I have watched all the stages, and it is incredible how much crap is going on in the crowd. Watch closely and look for the road painted treats to Lance and and the US Postal team.

Europe has no room to wag the finger at "ugly Americans" as we're far and beyond more civilized than they are. It's amazing how the myth of European cultural superiority continues to exist.
Thanks for reiterating that.........we are far and beyond more civilized and advanced than they are.

"A foreigner is safer in America..."
A foreigner is safer in America than in his own country, period. Doesn't matter where he is from, EU, Middle East - anywhere!

They are like a bunch of squabbling lowlifes who resent the fact that brother America went off and made something out of himself.

The Tour de
France Lance won't get any American coverage IMO if this is indeed Armstrongs last TDF race . It'll just be a backwater your'a peein event from that point on.
Stay safe !

Seriously, up till recently it was Europeans having the constant need to kill and maim themselves and others. This recent spate of American adventurism abroad is a lot more noble than the past European quests for money and blood.

Europe is a slithering den of vipers who hate their younger brother. Makes me think of Daniel.

This must just drive the Frenchies absolutely nuts!

This recent spate of American adventurism abroad is a lot more noble than the past European quests for money and blood. No doubt.....all I hear is the condemnation of people who weren't 'civilized' until about 1945.
....I use the term civilized loosely, of course. In the sense that they've managed to avoid another blood bath since then.

Its shocking how much Europe has become Sore Loosers lately. I mean what has caused them to be so Sore all of a sudden?

Probably the site of an American parading around the Arc De Triumph with a huge flag while leaving everyone else in the dust, and while wearing a Christian necklace during the race! (mon dieu..)

If America had not intervened, they would probably still be at war.
As if Jacque Iraq and the other Euro-snobs have anything to teach us. Well, they do...........continue on a path that is divergent from theirs. It worked in 1776, and will work well into the future.
We lead, because we have proven our fitness to lead. Time and time again. The United States is rapidly becoming the only light in darkness, and every American should be proud of that.
