Children interrupt sex assault Attacker leaves evidence while fleeing neighbor

PLAINVIEW — The fast action of 5- and 7-year-old siblings may have saved their mother from more serious harm after a man entered their home and sexually assaulted the woman Thursday, police said.
The 26-year-old single mother stepped outside her northwest Plainview home about midnight to empty the trash, while her children slept in their beds. When the woman re-entered the house, she found a strange man inside, said detective Capt. Michael T. Carroll.
The noise from the attack woke the children.
"When she started making noise, the kids woke up and saw what was going on," Carroll said. "They ran to the neighbors to get help."
Once the children alerted the couple that lives next door, that woman called 911 while the man ran to help the children's mother, Carroll said.
As the neighbor arrived at the victim's home, the attacker ran from the residence. The neighbor chased him, Carroll said, but the man got away.
The victim described the attacker as a Hispanic male, about 25 years old and about 180 pounds, and he wore big eyeglasses. He left behind a tell-tale piece of evidence.
"We have the ball cap," Carroll said.
A blue baseball cap fell off the suspect's head during the attack, Carroll said. It has a distinctive insignia that includes a skull and crossbones inside an eight-ball.
"Somebody knows who this guy is," Carroll said.
The woman was treated at an emergency room and released, he said.

A friend of mine, raised in Texas, actually shot a man with a .22 when the guy kept harassing his mother and wouldn't go away. The cops came and collected the creep, and had a good laugh about it. My friend was 16 at the time.
We are in San Antonio and there has been a string of crimes like this since Monday. Seems like one or two guys doing it around here. Perps are always described similar in size but some are said to be black and others mexican.
I wonder if they can get DNA off the hat.

This is pretty damned bold, and was done solely for the purpose of rape. My money is on this guy having just been released from prison for sex offenses.
