Bush Urges Blacks to Consider What Dems Have Done for Them Lately

(CNSNews.com) - President Bush came right out and asked African-Americans for their vote on Friday. In his address to the National Urban League, Bush said he understands that the "Republican Party's got a lot of work to do." And he urged Democratic voters to consider some questions.
"Does the Democratic Party take African-American voters for granted?" It's a fair question, Bush said. Do Democrats earn your vote and deserve it, he asked?

The marketplace is ALL ABOUT free trade. A command economy is the antithesis of the marketplace. No free trade, no marketplace. This Econ 101.
What about the consumer? Why do I have to be forced by protectionists like you to pay two or three times more than the market dictates for basic goods?
Which begs the question which again I ask (you keep ignoring this question), what good does getting paid twice as much for my labor here at home do me if my cost of living as a result triples?
High wages aren't high if the prices are also high. This very argument you are making about how the price of labor is such a huge factor in business decisions undermines your point and makes mine. If you jack up a company's cost of doing business, then they have to jack up the price of their product to continue to make a profit or in some cases just break even. You're just robbing Peter to pay Paul. Spinning your wheels...
Who's talking about being protected by mother government but you guys? It is government policy that is causing the rest of us to get screwed in this mix - not the lack thereof. You are the one fighting for protection by Mother government. Back up the wagon spanky and wear your own nonsense argument. Why should we allow nanny government to screw us while protecting your greed?
I agree that the message was just right. Just seemed that he was preoccupied.
I'm a big fan of GWB, but I think it is important to be honest about his performances. If you think he performed well in this speech, then in my opinion you are looking through rose colored glasses. Which is OK for some, but not for me.

The rest of the world was not considered part of the local market before.. was it. We were working supply and demand on a basis of local economies. As I said - for the sake of the American worker because of free trade and Nafta, supply and demand no longer works for them. I'm full aware of supply and demand and how it works. And I've stated it's broken and why I state that. It is true. supply of labor in america is no benefit to the American worker. Do you like tea, btw?
Of course its worth it. Fight through the chafe and soldier on.
This was a marvelous speech to a respectful auidience that pulled few punches.
My wife and I had a discussion with a black union rep in DC at the March for Life. He was demanding to know why we thought we had a right to tell others "what they can do with their bodies". After some heated back and forth, I asked him why he supposed that black children were aborted at rates several times higher than whites or hispanics.
The look on his face belied his next words. He told me I was "full of it". But he knew that I was telling the truth. I could see it in his eyes. He left pissed off but he left with a thought in his mind that will always be there. And my wife and I put it there.
Keep on keeping on.

Don't count on it. He's a 'rat when it comes right down to it. He made campaign commercials for John Street in the last mayor's race in Philly.

From my experience, the term "colored" is much more of a perjorative, or negative, term.
It ranks right along with the "n-word" (also known as the "n-bomb"), the "s-word" (which, if you added the words "and span", you would have a popular floor cleaner), "monkey" and "watermelon" on the proverbial "bottom of the barrel" of things to call a person who looks like me.
Personally, I prefer not to be labeled by any designation of color. I didn't decide to be the "color" that I am, any more than you did...and I'm not mad at you, it's just a statement of fact. I didn't choose to be born, I didn't choose my parents, my original house, or a whole lot of things.
Since I didn't choose those things, I refuse--as much as is within my power--to be defined by them, labeled by them, or hindered by them. I also choose to not be "pandered to", because of them.
What am I? I am an American (and, I might add, darn happy to be). I am a man. I happen to be a little darker than some, in my skin color. Those are things I could not control.
I chose to be as good a student as was possible. I chose to learn computers. I chose to learn music. I chose to appreciate sports. I chose to serve an awesome God, and to find faith in Him through His Son, Jesus (though, to be very technical about things, He found me first).
I chose to take responsibility for my actions, whether good or bad, and I chose to not label myself a "victicrat" because of pre-existing conditions that did not concern me, or those who look(ed) like me.
Also, since I don't judge myself, or others, by the color of their skin, I don't allow skin color to be the determining factor of my "leadership". My "leaders" are not Shakedown Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Carol Mostly-Fraud, or the like. My leaders, as an American, are:
---George W. Bush, President
---Richard Cheney, Vice President
---Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense
---Colin Powell, Secretary of State
---Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor
---Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California
---James Hahn, Mayor of Los Angeles
...and so the list goes.
I realize that is a longer answer to your question than you might have sought...but every once in a while, I get this question, and it gives me an open door to explain who I am, what I believe, why I believe it, and what impact it really has on my life.

I don't want any label, p.c. or otherwise. I'm an American, I am a man, I work hard, pay my taxes, and I don't need some backwoods, end of a rope or waterhose derogatory term still applied to me today in the 21st Century.
Just because you get it on your block doesn't mean that you need to use it. It is offensive. So before you go saying "get over yourself", why don't you join us in the now? I don't have time to deal with ignorance of the past, especially when it reappears in the present.
So personally, whatever you call me, go away, far away, before you do it.
I saw most of the speech. I thought he had a good rapport with the audience. He said a lot of serious things to them but also had them LOL plenty of times. I liked it.

If you were REALLY concerned about propriety, then all you had to do was say, "I'm sorry that I offended you, what should I call you?" It would have ended right there.
Of course, YOU couldn't resist throwing in additional insults, which says more about you than about me. I can't gauge your motives...but your actions are fair game. Whether you are allowed to continue it, is up for the moderators to decide.

That term, people of color, has always got me. Do they not consider White to be a color? Or am I CLEAR, thus have no color?

We were never working supply and demand on the basis of local economies. America has always been involved in global trade, and protectionism/mercantilism vs. free trade has been constantly debated. The cost of foreign labor has always been a factor in our economy, even without "outsourching".

I think you'd need to point out where I was ever racist. Which I think is the argument you were attempting to beg with no foundation. None because there wasn't any. If you want to play the persecuted self martyr, I can point you to some people who do it better so you can at least seem genuine while standing about slinging false accusations.
