LINDA RONSTADT is doing a fine job of destroying what is left of her fan base.
Last Saturday the owner of the Aladdin hotel and casino in Las Vegas had her escorted off the property after a large chunk of the crowd became enraged when she praised Michael Moore and dedicated the Eagles song Desperado to him. After fans booed, defaced her posters and demanded their money back, Ronstadt attempted to justify her blunder with the customary blather about wanting to raise political awareness.
This is an election year, she told the Los Angeles Times after the event. I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote. . . . Im not telling them how to vote. Im saying, get information about the issues.
Then why didnt she tell the audience that? And why, in an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, published two days before she was removed from the Aladdin, did she say this: This is an election year, and I think were in desperate trouble and its time for people to speak up and not pipe down. Its a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. Id rather not know.
Her enjoyment? Forget the paying customers; its all about Linda.
Ronstadt so despises Republicans and Christians that she has difficulty enjoying her shows if she knows her singing brings pleasure to any of them. Tell us again which side of the political aisle is filled with contempt and hatred?
We arent for boycotting an artist just because her political views differ from ones own. Besides, if conservatives did that, they could never listen to the radio, go to the movies or watch TV. But Ronstadts bigotry is enough to make any right-thinking person reconsider purchasing anything that would put money in her pocket.
Regards, Ivan
Ping!
She thinks she's a much better singer than she is. In that same interview she talks about how she probably would have become an opera singer, if she hadn't gotten caught up in pop. She's in the movie version of "Pirates of Penzance" and it's fairly clear from that that major opera Diva was never a career path for her.
She's a Mexican-American, despite the German name. She's had some good success singing Mexican folk songs. My suggestion is that she decamp for Cancun forthwith, I'm sure there are many tourist joints there who can provide her with gainful employment. Since America s*cks so much.
That headline is right on the money.
Glad I never bought any of her albums anyway
Yeah, me too, although I've never really liked her voice or her.
Whatever is the author talking about? It's not bigotry if it's against Christians...
We were going to burn her albums but no one could find their old 8-tracks.
bttt
I will never understand Linda Ronstadt. Why alienate people who like her?
The problem with calling some non Christians bigots is that they have no enlightened conscience and they'll feel that criticism never applies to them any-ways...but they'll happily turn the phrase around onto Christians...some of whom exercise no wisdom and discernment regarding conscience and faith.
Thus these Christians feel as though they must carry the whole world of "progressivist ideology" on their shoulders instead of their own CROSSES, inadvertantly giving into the evil they are to stand against!
Linda, Linda, Linda.
Just shut up and sing Blew By You for us one more time.
Its a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a ... fundamental Christian Jew. It can cloud my enjoyment.
that would have been a career ender. No ifs, ands, or buts. No Hollywood celebs talking about censorship and freedom of speech.
I will never understand any of the thinking of these celebrities. Don't they understand approx. half of the population is Republican? Linda Ronstadt has just lost half of her fan base.
Are they that dumb?
to be fair, she was very sexy, or even cute, in the early 70's
Talk about not knowing her audience.
My dad bought all her albums with Nelson Riddle, and she's definitely on his sh!t list now.
I have a lot of movies from people whose politics I don't agree with. However most of them don't go out of their way to show they're smarter than me and I hope the rest of Hollywood learns that lesson - fast. Being a snob is very unbecoming.
Pot calling Kettle, come in Kettle, over.
From the physical evidence, it's quite obvious that somebody hasn't lifted her head out of the mashed potatoes in quite some time.
She's a big....something.
