WASHINGTON - U.S. officials scrapped a 1999 plan to offer the Taliban a $250 million bribe to turn over Osama Bin Laden, fearing then-First Lady Hillary Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright would object to paying off the infamous women's rights abusers.Clinton had long criticized the Islamic regime in Afghanistan for covering women with burkas and denying them educations and jobs.
According to the final 9/11 commission report, Bill Clinton's administration had already made fruitless overtures to the Taliban, paying $10 million to $20 million annually in bribes.
"Two senior State Department officials suggested asking the Saudis to offer the Taliban $250 million for Bin Laden," the report said, citing a May 1999 memo. But White House terrorism czar Richard Clarke "opposed ... a 'huge grant to a regime as heinous as the Taliban' and suggested that the idea might not seem attractive to either Secretary Albright or First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton - both critics of the Taliban's record on women's rights."
"Sen. Clinton was a vocal critic of the heinous Taliban regime well before 9/11," said her spokesman, Philippe Reines.

It is an absolute certainty that Hillary! is not, and nevr has been, a "girlie man." The same goes for Madelaine Albright. And Helen Thomas. LOL.

Berger's actions appear to be at the orders of someone else. The risk he was personally taking doesn't appear to warrant whatever consequences he was trying to avoid. However, if he was the cut-out for someone else, Berger would take the personal risk, the other person gets the benefit.
This is similar to the Huntsman in Snow White. Berger is the Huntsman, who was told to bring back, not the heart of Snow White, but rather the incriminating documents. Or else.

Do a search in the online copy of the report for the fourth paragraph of the article. It is from the report, so it should be in there if legit. In the vicinity should be the info on yearly bribes of 10-20 million bucks.
The Taliban didn't name one of their burka lines "The Hillary".
Did they write a letter or have a meeting with Bush?

Folks.....big news here....Hillary Clinton is on the list of senators, that according to Newsmax, tried to get Bush to offer a big donation to the Taliban right before 9/11.

Why then does the Clintonites claim to the 9/11 commission, a claim picked up the Daily News, that they turned down the huge money donation due to concern over funding an anti-woman regime? Because if Hillary would have been concerned about that, she would not have approached Bush to fund the Taliban with a donation, no matter what the size compared to what Clinton supposedly turned down. Hillary would have had problems with the yearly bribes to the Taliban as well.
True. No doubt the right will try to find anything to implicate Clinton in the report, just as the Dems will do the same to Bush.

I tried to find the original article earlier and met with the same frustration, however I do remember the article clearly stating that those 13 Senators MET with President Bush to persuade him to give the Taliban $30 Million and that this happened in only a few days prior to 09/11/01.

The claim about Clinton providing 10-20 million per year is something I can not confirm. The report does not state this as best as I can tell.
I searched for "$10" and "$20" and only found references to that being the amount Bin Laden gave the Taliban safe haven.
It could be that the NY Daily News reporter was reading and somehow stuck Clinton in there....I don't know.
But, there is NO EVIDENCE IN THE REPORT THAT CLINTON GAVE ANNUAL BRIBES as far as I can tell. I don't know what the NY Daily News is smoking, but I searched for everything that should have brought up a hit.
