JARRATT, Va. (AP) A man who fatally shot his wife and 2-year-old son was put to death by injection Thursday night.
Asked by the warden if he had any final words, Mark W. Bailey said in a clear, strong voice, "No, thank you." He was pronounced dead at 9:07 p.m. at the Greensville Correctional Center.
Gov. Mark R. Warner on Thursday evening denied Bailey's request for clemency, noting that his case had been reviewed by several courts. The Supreme Court unanimously denied Bailey's appeal Wednesday.
Bailey, 34, shot his wife three times in the head as she slept in their Hampton home in September 1998. He gunned down his son moments later as the child climbed out of bed.
Bailey, a Gulf War veteran and Navy submariner, was convicted of capital murder in July 1999.

WOW! Six years from crime to execution. That's quick.
And California just spends the money to keep them on death row until they die of old age.
Say bye!
Well, now he does not suffer from manic depression any longer.
Was his middle name Wayne?

Yup, the guy is no longer depressed though he may now have flames licking at his butt.
Execution took place 37 days after the crime for the man who shot at Franklin D Roosevelt and Anton Cermak
Is it my imagination or does he look a bit like that Scott Petersen guy? Mrs PD
Better yet, in the old west they just hanged them the next day at dawn.
Virginia justice ping.
One less vote for Timmy Kaine.
That's a two-fer.
At least he had a chance to voice his final words. No such luxury for his wife and precious child. And what's with..."a clear strong voice". There is (WAS) nothing strong about this man. Did Susan Sarandon write this article?
And I hope Scott suffers the same fate -- IF he's truly guilty (as distinguished from legally guilty).
