Chappaquiddick's unanswered questions -

By Jeff Jacoby - July 22, 2004

This column ran in The Boston Globe 10 years ago, 25 years after the 1969 death of Mary Jo Kopechne in Ted Kennedy's car. This week, therefore, marks the 35th anniversary of her death. Kennedy will be honored by the Democratic Party when its national convention meets in Boston next week.

http://www.jewishworldreview.com | "I've answered all the questions." — Senator Edward Kennedy, July 8, 1994 on the tragedy at Chappaquiddick

Twenty-five years ago tomorrow, on July 22, 1969, Mary Jo Kopechne was buried at St. Vincent's Cemetery in Plymouth, Penn. She had died three days earlier, pinned underwater when Senator Kennedy's car swerved off Dike Bridge on Chappaquiddick Island.

Within hours of Kopechne's death, a Kennedy aide named Dun Gifford flew a chartered plane into Edgartown (the Martha's Vineyard town that Chappaquiddick is a part of), with orders to get the body off the island. Before Massachusetts officials had even decided whether to perform an autopsy to settle the cause of death, Kopechne's remains were in Pennsylvania — beyond the state's jurisdiction.

Did Kennedy order Gifford to remove the body...?

We've reached a horrible time in which the People know about the obscenities of the Kennedys/clintons/burgers--and still allow them to go unpunished.

The pot will boil.

In 1965 at the St. Patrick's day parade in South Boston when I was about 9 years old, I shook Ted Kennedy's hand.

I still try to wash thoroughly when I think about it.

A&E did an "Investigative reports" on this. They came up with the most likely scenario: Teddy puts the moves on Mary Joe. She is appalled and kicks him out of the car. She doesn't know the Island, and drives off the bridge. Meanwhile, Teddy goes back to the party. He gets a ride to the ferry and goes back to his hotel. His aids go looking for Mary Joe. They find her, rush to the hotel to tell Teddy. Teddy concocts the "I tried to save her" story because it is politically less damaging than the "she kicked me out of the car" story.

Massachusetts is the Twilight Zone of American politics. Its non judgmental liberalism allowed Uncle Ted to have a flourishing career as a U.S Senator and now its given us his political sibling, John F*ckin, who libeled American G.I's fighting in Southeast Asia as "killers." And its bequeathed us a party that never asks questions when things go wrong on its watch.

If you're the 9 out 10 people in Massachusetts who knows the only game in town is the Democratic Party, you'll understand.

Fortunately, I am from and in Texas, so I'll never have to contemplate such hideousness.

The only problem wit this is that it has already been established that Mary Jo was not driving.

This forum started out as the Whitewater forum, dedicated to not letting crimes in high places go unnoticed. With that in mind, this article is required reading. Let us not forget Mary Jo Kopechne, Mary Mahoney, Eileen Wellstone, and all the victims of the Kennedys and the Kennedy wannabe.

That is not the analysis of the data in the A&E report. They concluded that she was in the driver's seat when the car went into the water.

Maybe her head was in the driver's seat?
