Sickening - Feminist Author Aborts Two of Three Triplets in "Selective Reduction" Prodcedure
New York Times ^ | July 18, 2004 | Amy Richards

...snip...

I found out I was having triplets when I went to my obstetrician. The doctor had just finished telling me I was going to have a low-risk pregnancy. She turned on the sonogram machine. There was a long pause, then she said, ''Are you sure you didn't take fertility drugs?'' I said, ''I'm positive.'' Peter and I were very shocked when she said there were three. ''You know, this changes everything,'' she said. ''You'll have to see a specialist.''

My immediate response was, I cannot have triplets. I was not married; I lived in a five-story walk-up in the East Village; I worked freelance; and I would have to go on bed rest in March. I lecture at colleges, and my biggest months are March and April. I would have to give up my main income for the rest of the year. There was a part of me that was sure I could work around that. But it was a matter of, Do I want to?

I looked at Peter and asked the doctor: ''Is it possible to get rid of one of them? Or two of them?'' The obstetrician wasn't an expert in selective reduction, but she knew that with a shot of potassium chloride you could eliminate one or more.

Her son will have to live with the knowledge that his mother stole his two siblings from him and all of the memories of the play and support they would have given him as he grows up.

That's what struck me. I'm youngest of seven, so I'm used to lots of people around. I have trouble imaging kids who are only children, especially in this day and age of "play dates" because you can't just walk down the block to your friend's house when you're only six years old -- if you're lucky enough to have a friend on the block about the same age. Anyway, do you feel lucky that Mommy chose me not to kill? Do you feel sad that someone else isn't there to share your good times and bad times?

You should try to dig it out, because I've never seen anyone raked over the coals so viciously on FR as this woman was.

And this was unjustified because...?

She should be applauded because she killed 66% of her children so she wouldn't have to live on Staten Island and shop at Costco?

Somehow, I could see this being used as a plotline in "Sex and the City." There, at least, the character would agonize for 30 seconds or so before going with the "selective reduction." BTW, anyone ever notice the amazing resemblence between Sarah Jessica Parker and Smarty Jones?

Oh PLEASE!

If she had just offed all 3, there would be no discussion now.

MANY women have had THREE abortions, and surely 3 at one time would NOT cause that much of a stir!

I feel sick after reading this. Like I want to vomit.

Mrs. IOTN and I have been trying to have another child for the last 3 years, and this woman can so flippantly and selfishly dispose of two precious babies. Like it's a soft-option for her. Like it's as easy as choosing what to throw away when you move.

It would be easy for me to hate her, but I can't. I feel sorry for her. That she's been so affected, so saturated with the feminist doctrine of selfishness and self-loathing that she feels "inconvenienced" by having more than one child.

God forgive her, because I can't.

Surely you have us confused with the abortion enthusiasts over at DU.

I wonder if the "reduction slut" will tell the one that made it (talk about "winning life's lottery!), like a good liberal PC feminazi would do?

Rush read this on his program the other day. I thought as it progressed that he was going to say that she changed her mind about the "reduction". When I realized that she went through with it, it made me sick. If all 3 had been born, I challenge her to choose 2 of them to murder. IMO she has absolutely no idea the horror of what she has done.

"selective reduction"

Fits right in with 'final solution' and 'liquidation of reactionary elements'.

The progressives get all the good ideas!

" An evil, self-obsessed, shallow, stupid, arrogant whore.

" And she thinks it's acceptable--acceptable enough to write about it in an article for the New York Times."

She found it lucrative as well as acceptable: the Times pays well for accepted submissions.

There's another view of this terrible act: this woman is, through this article, hanging out her guilt - confessing it. It is the same as a person who committed a crime years ago is subsequently so filled with self-loathing that he or she eventually walks into a police station, and confesses.

But this woman still, outwardly, pretends it was "not her fault". She is all "I, me, and my."

She knows inwardly as much as we do the great sin she committed. But she needs to confess to the Lord, not to Man. And making money on her sin is only going to compound it.

(NEW YORK, NY) April 14, 2004 At approximately 4:00 PM today, James Whalen ,35, surrendered to authorities at the 68th Precinct in Brooklyn. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, a class E Felony, for allegedly beating and killing his girlfriend's five- year- old cat. Special Agent Joe Pentangelo of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' (ASPCA) Humane Law Enforcement Department made the arrest and charge.

On April 8, 2004 at 7311 Fourth Ave. in Bayridge, Brooklyn, Mr. Whalen allegedly beat and killed the cat. His girlfriend's mother discovered the cat and brought it to Brooklyn Veterinary Emergency Service in Bayridge. There, a staff veterinarian, Dr. Brett Levitsky, notified the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Department. Special Agent Pentangelo interviewed the veterinarian, suspect and suspect's girlfriend prior to today's arrest.

If found guilty, Mr. Whalen will serve a minimum of one year in prison and a maximum of two years and a $5,000 fine.

"If she had just offed all 3, there would be no discussion now."

What if you were the one who survived? How would you feel knowing that it was pure luck that you survived while your two siblings were intentionally killed by your mother?

I know it would creep me out.

Perhaps if prices get too steep in Manhattan and she is threatened with having to cut back on her lifestyle she can just drown the surviving bastard in the bath.

That should save a few bucks
