~ CANTEEN FIELD TRIP ~ |
Welcome to the FR Canteen's Thursday Field Trip!! Ma decided that we needed to do something fun. She gave us a difficult, but interesting task. Here's what she wanted: "Take the kids on a field trip that will allow our Troops to see America's best. Let them know that we don't just remember all of those that come from big cities, but from smalltown USA."
So? We began our search for smalltown USA. The first place we found is really a treat. At least three Canteeners will be able to tell you what our first smalltown USA place is like. So? Look for them on the thread.
Before we get started, the FR Canteen would like to thank Allen Muma of azjerome.com. Thank you Allen for providing us details for our FR Canteen Field Trip. You've been absolutely wonderful.
Troops and Canteen!! Off to Jerome, Arizona for today! Enjoy! Make sure to post any pictures or facts that you may find on the thread about Jerome on the thread! (Click to enlarge all the pictures) |

Located high on top of Cleopatra Hill (5,200 feet) between Prescott and Flagstaff is the historic copper mining town of Jerome, Arizona.
When the town was just a small mining camp, financing was needed to pull the copper from the abundant ore. After some coercion from his wife, Eugene Jerome made the investment. Although he never visited the town, the town took his name. (*Eugene Jerome was Winston Churchill's mother's cousin.) |

Jerome's post office was established September 10, 1883 and has never been discontinued. Once the fifth largest city in Arizona, Jerome has now been reduced to a ghost of a city. Copper was the mainstay and the mines are rumored to have started over 1000 years ago by the Tuzigoot Indians. In 1882, the United Verde Copper company was formed by James A. McDonald and Eugene Jerome of New York, and Governor Tritle of Arizona. (For more information please click here.) |

Remember Allen Muma? He was the gentleman that had to endure speaking to Mojo on the phone? (Yes! We all feel bad for him. Sorry Allen!)
When he's not letting cyber tourists browse Jerome, AZ via his website at www.azjerome.com , he's a proud owner of the establishment above. You must click on the picture to see the website for this quaint B&B. Please make reservations if you are ever in the area. Besides, Ma would love to try Miss Jackie's "secret chocolate chip" cookie. British Worry That Drinking Has Gotten Out of Hand The New York Times ^ | July 22, 2004 | SARAH LYALL Posted on 07/22/2004 9:26:02 AM EDT by OESY
LONDON, July 22 - Britain has always been a place where people enjoy a drink or two (or more) at the local pub, and where football hooligans and so-called lager louts represent the public face of overconsumption. But lately the country's growing inability to hold its liquor has taken on the scope of a national crisis.
Even Prime Minister Tony Blair is worried. "There is a clear and growing problem in our town and city centers up and down the country on Friday and Saturday nights," said Mr. Blair, whose son, then 16, was found vomiting and incoherent on a London street four years ago after an evening of drinking. "As a society we have to make sure that this form of what we often call binge drinking doesn't become the new British disease."
Hmmm...MoJo can just see where this is going.
WE NEED A COMMISSION TO STUDY THE EFFECTS OF BEER ON PEOPLE.
Okay? Who wants to sign up to sacrifice for their fellow citizens?
Well, this is for the good of the Mother Country!

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. Army has long lured recruits with the slogan "Be All You Can Be," but now soldiers and their families can receive plastic surgery, including breast enlargements, on the taxpayers' dime.
Let the Hooters Wars Begin!
Be All You Can Be in a Size Triple J
And guess who pays for it?
That's right...YOU AND I!
Ain't life grand? LOL!

Have fun today.
Please don't stuff any classified reports in your socks, pants, or anyplace else. We'd hate to be the ones to turn you in for a million dollar reward. (Not that we would ever contemplate doing such a thing. Hehe!)

Guards Finger Berger in Sox Docs Heist NewsMax.com ^ | 7/22/04 | Carl Limbacher Posted on 07/22/2004 9:52:17 AM EDT by kattracks
After three days worth of denials from his legal team, eyewitnesses to Sandy Berger's top secret document heist have confirmed that the former national security advisor did indeed stash national security secrets in his socks, as well as his pants pockets. "The stuffed socks and pockets is real," a senior law enforcement official told the New York Daily News. "The (theft) was reported by the guards." Guards at the National Archives told the FBI that Berger was observed stuffing his socks with handwritten notes about files he reviewed that were going to the Sept. 11 panel, the News said.
Just an example of what not to do today, Mr.Tonkin!
Hehe!

Welcome to the Canteen Allegra!!
Now that we got that over with. Please step to the side. We need to ensure that you aren't stuffing anything down your socks that would be vital to national security issues.
For example, TAKING A TWINKIE from the NATIONAL ARCHIVES IS A NO-NO!
So?? Step to the side! This won't be painful. Or at least the last dude going to the hospital didn't really say much about it hurting.
LOL!!

Any applicant applying for the job of beer tester must have a strong gut and a dislike for Hooters.
Whoa!! That totally disqualifies you.
YOU ARE DENIED!
Oh well! You can always work on buying me a Ferrari Enzo. Hehe!
