Archives Employees Suspicious of Berger... devised a coding system and marked the documents they knew Berger was interested in canvassing, and watched him carefully... employees determined that that draft and all four or five other versions of the millennium memo had disappeared from the files after Berger viewed them, WASH POST set to report, say sources... Possibly to take down Kerry or Edwards so Hillary can jump in and "save the party" (Bill did say this was old news....So did they set up Kerry?)

I'm paranoid enough to believe this. If this happened to be the case, I'm hoping some snappy commercials come up fast:

Somber Voice: "John Kerry had to step down from the race because he stole top secret government documents. Now, Hillary Clinton wants to be President. But she stole 900 FBI files when her husband was in office. Is she REALLY the right replacement for Kerry? How much more trust are the Democrats willing to squander? It makes one wonder: Why do the Dems keep trying to put "3rd Rate Burglars" back in our precious Whitehouse?"

Scene: Voiceover occurs while a clever montage of black and white photos are displayed on the screen. Berger looking guilty, Hillary getting grilled by some committe, etc. Maybe flash a few scenes from Watergate in there. Right at the close, cycle images of Tricky Dick, Berger and then Hillary, all captured in a similar pose. The Dems will wail and moan about Watergate comparsions, assuring the commercial will get free air time on the news. It would then stick, despite all the whining.

Ok, lot of typing there for a simple fantasy situation and commercial the Pubbies would not have the guts to run.

I heard an interesting tidbit on one of the shows (was it the babe guest on Hardball who used to work for Berger?) say Berger had spoken with authorities in April...Thought we could file that away in our minds. I haven't seen it in an article.

Does anyone know which building this occurred at? The main Archives in Washington, College Park or any other building?

"I would bet that it won't. The media WILL NOT do an about face and do something to harm their side."

The media covered Monica even against their idol Clinton.

My money says that the Washington Post page-1's this scandal tomorrow, that USA Today tries to downplay it in print, and that the networks start asking "How similar is Berger's theft of national security documents to Nixon's theft of Democratic Party papers in Watergate?"

Say what you will about the news media, but ratings do count, and none of them will dare be left out of a story that everyone else is covering.

Once a scandal gains a certain amount of coverage, it takes on a life of its own.

The Dems made some serious tactical errors here, too. Instead of sacrificing Berger immediately, they dug their hole deeper by first trying to cover for him, second trying to downplay it, and third attacking Republicans about leaking it.

All of those things only serve to give excuses for the press to run more and more articles, building the story ever so much larger, however.

Some things can't be spun, and trying to spin those things always makes matters worse. That's the trap that the Dems are now in, all of their own doing.

Repeat: "Voting for John Kerry is so Septemeber 10th"

Everybody cut and paste this to Yahoo News Message boards, to tease the Democrats.

David Gergan is a lying POS! Ask Barbara Bush. She said that he stabbed her husband in the back on Larry King Alive one night. That's all she would say.

"emphasis on the issue of copies"

One of the talk radio guys had an interesting theory that makes sense. Copies of the initial draft report are sent to 10-12 people "in the loop" (President, advisors, etc.). They review it and make comments, add information, delete things, etc. They make little notes in the margins. These "copies" are sent back to be reworked. Do this a few times to come up with the "Final Report".

So now you have numerous "copies" (12 x 4 reworkings = 48 documents perhaps), each with original handwritting in the margins. Red marker crossing out sentences and paragraphs, etc.

Perhaps it is the notes in the margins that Berger was trying to erase (or "missplace"). Perhaps something like Clinton or an advisor saying "What about al Queda?" "Shouldn't we talk about the airplanes as missles thing?" "No - TWA 800 wasn't terrorism".

Don't let the talk of "copies" distract us. What was in the margins. What was "between the lines".

That's what he said two days ago, what's his take on it now?

Purposeful evasion.

Sandy Berger committed a felony.

Janet Reno would claim, "no criminal intent."

Mr. Berger's attorney's advice to Mr. Berger is, "an honest mistake."

Amazingly, the public is led to believe that these terms are some of the legal provisions of the statutes on this matter.

No.

Purposeful evasion is criminal intent.

He should be charged, prosecuted, and thrown in the can in accordance with the proscribed punishment.

The media is more loyal to the Clintons than to Kerry and they will go along. This may have been Hillary's first shot across the Kerry (and Edwards) bow.

Interesting - and quite possibly true - The leaker I have thought from minute one is definitely from the DEM's - I've always thought it was Berger himself (trying to fend off any possible indictment that could be coming) -

Could it be a shot across the bow from the Clinton's? - Very possibly - more power to the evil bastards if it is!

What appeared in the final draft of the memo was nothing like what the memo had in it when it was first drafted. As the memo makes the rounds of the government agencies, notes and comments are added, until everyone has seen/commented on it that needs to. A final draft is created and sent around again for the approval of all involved.

The drafts of the memo have more 'truth' in it than the final version. Everyone involved gets to look at it and object to embarassing elements, or things that make them look bad, or 'dangerous' information. That is what Sandy Berger was after. He only wanted the sanitized version available for public scrutiny. The drafts had to go.

I am hoping that the archivists and the FBI were smart enough to copy the itms of interest that they thought Berger was after...
