Raitt Hopes Bush Won't Be Re-Elected

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Winding up her summer tour across Europe, rhythm and blues singer Bonnie Raitt (news) drew thunderous applause at the Stockholm Jazz Festival for dedicating a classic to U.S. President George W. Bush (news - web sites).

"We're gonna sing this for George Bush because he's out of here, people!" Raitt crowed Tuesday night before she launched into the opening licks of "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)," a cover that was featured on her 1979 album "The Glow."

The song, penned by Isaac Hayes and David Porter, has been sung by several notable performers, including Mable John, Lou Rawls and others.

Raitt's comments resulted in a round of applause and even whistles from among the estimated 3,000 concertgoers at the Swedish capital's annual jazz event held on the banks of the downtown Skeppsholmen island.

Swedes are skeptical of Bush and the Scandinavian country refused to support his efforts in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq (news - web sites) in 2003.

The nine-time Grammy award winner is no stranger to political activism. Her Web site urges fans to learn more about preserving the environment and she was a founding member of MUSE, or Musicians United for Safe Energy.

Raitt finished off her set with several blues classics, original songs, including several from her breakthrough 1989 album "Nick of Time" and John Prine covers.

It gives me no pleasure I assure you. Last I heard she was singing back-up for Kentucky country-rock duo Montgomery Gentry (who are openly W supporters).

hate to break this to you, but FALCO lead singer is dead/kaput and so is the once-great band. He is 6feet under, may he rest in peace.

All I can say is that Bonnie B is a lot easier on the eyes than Bonnie Raitt.
Bonnie B, just has never had the career she should have had and sadly since the demise of Delaney & Bonnie she has never recaptured the fame she had from that and that's been almost 30 years ago. Kind of sad to have been a has been since your 20's.
I remember seeing her back in the early 1980's when she was singing backup with the Allman Brothers Band and man I can still remember that concert, she had a lot of energy and she was one Hot Mama to look at.

Bonnie Bramlett had a recurring role on Roseanne in the 90s for a year or two. She was a waitress at the mall coffee shop. Probably a lefty if she ran in Roseanne's circles.

I can't say I ever cared too much for this transexual or her music.

Haven't heard anything from Grace Slick lately?? Maybe if she spouts off some Bush hate it will add another 15 minutes to her fading career.

She was with Fleetwood Mac for a brief period in the 90's. I saw them at a club in St. Pete,FL. She was alright, darn cute too. Conveniently falling out of her skimpy outfit on several occasions. Her politics are stupid, but consistent with the rest of the 'beautiful' people.

yep...that pic I posted was from some party at Mick Fleetwood's home in the mid 90s.

She was doing the MG gig fairly recently.

I saw her here at the Ryman in 97 with that Billy fellow when they were pegged as Bekka and Billy. It was a showcase event but apparently there were no music row takers.

Doing a showcase at the Ryman is over the top.

"RAITT HOPES BUSH WON'T BE RE-ELECTED"

After hearing her sing "Gnawin' On It", I hope Raitt never makes another record.

I know you said you don't like country, but pick up Red Dirt Road by Brooks & Dunn. Also try Only in America. Believe me, these guys are good.

My favorite music always had a little country backbeat in it. Most artists are flakes. Willie Nelson was supporting Dennis Kuchinich (or however you spell his name). Jimmy Buffett is a Rat, but I'll listen to his music anyway.

Thanks for the recommendations. (I thought Brooks and Dunn were libs, for some reason -- I could be wrong.) I knew Buffett was a rat, because during our state elections two years back a taped message from Buffett on Siegleman's behalf was placed on lots of folks answering machines, ours included.

We recently visited the establishment which inspired the song "Cheeseburger in Paradise". It WAS a good cheeseburger. :-)
