Commentary Defense Against "Full Faith And Credit" Commentary by Paul M. Weyrich July 21, 2004
The fight to preserve marriage as solely a covenant between a man and a woman continues. The Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives has taken action on a related issue that is also of great importance. Indeed, it is likely that the House will vote on the issue later this week.
Rep. John Hostettler (R-IN) is sponsor of H.R. 3313 -- the Marriage Protection Act (MPA), which carried the day 21-13 in committee last week.

In other words, enact this bill into law, and judicial activists on the Federal bench will not have jurisdiction to knock down the Defense of Marriage Act's Full Faith and Credit Limitations. No State will be obligated to accept anothers same-sex marriage license.

None other than Abraham Lincoln claimed that "if the policy of the government, upon vital questions, affecting the whole people, is to be irrevocably fixed by decisions of the Supreme Court the people will have ceased to be their own rulers, having, to that extent, practically resigned their government into the hands of that eminent tribunal."

If I have a license to carry a concealed handgun in Texas, doesn't "full faith and credit" mean I can carry it in NY or any other state?

It hasn't come up in the Senate yet. We have to get it through the House then take on the Senate.
Wasn't DOMA supposed to already be 'the effect'? Meaning, since Congress can outline 'the effect' of public acts, records etc., DOMA was supposed to already give states the option of recognizing gay marriages. In other words, why is this now needed?
It's needed to keep the courts from messing with the law.
