Bonnie Raitt Dedicates Song, 'About to End' to Bush

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Winding up her summer tour across Europe, Bonnie Raitt (news) drew thunderous applause at the Stockholm Jazz Festival for dedicating a classic to President George Bush.

"We're gonna sing this for George Bush because he's out of here, people!" Raitt crowed Tuesday night before she launched into the opening licks of "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)," a cover that was featured on her 1979 album, "The Glow."

Bonnie and Joan Baez visit Julia Butterfly Hill on her
100-foot high platform during her historic two-year
tree-sit in Luna, a 1000-year-old Redwood.

The song, written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter, has been sung by several notable performers, including Mable John and Lou Rawls.

Raitt's comments resulted in a round of applause and even whistles from among the estimated 3,000 concertgoers at the Swedish capital's annual jazz event held on the banks of the downtown Skeppsholmen island.

Swedes are skeptical of Bush, and the Scandinavian country refused to support his efforts in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq (news - web sites) in 2003.

The Grammy-winning singer is no stranger to political activism. Her Web site urges fans to learn more about preserving the environment and she was a founding member of MUSE, or Musicians United for Save Energy.

And how much energy does it take to transport a recording artist, her entourage (musicians, roadies, various toadies and attendants), and her equipment across the country/world so that she can sing about how the rest of us really ought to quit wasting energy? G-d, these idiotic, arrogant pricks really do live in a bubble, don't they?

Well said.

Hmmmm? I've been thinking lately about all these people starting to make public comments about their hatred for President Bush.

I've been wondering if GOD is working a rope-a-dope on these people ..?? The scriptures clearly state that "GOD will not strive with man forever".

How embarrassing will it be when Bush is re-elected in such an overwhelming number that all these people who have been bad-mouthing Bush end up disgraced.

I have one of her first albums which she dedicated "To The People of North Vietnam".

No big surprise.

Swedes were also skeptical of Roosevelt and Churchill and the Scandinavian country refused to support their efforts in the U.S.-led invasion of Normandy in 1944.

I didn't know that Bonnie Raitt was a such dumbass.

Actually, I think she's one of the best female rock singers ever, maybe the best. But that doesn't prevent her from being a political moron (see post #9).

the Scandinavian country refused to support their efforts in the U.S.-led invasion of Normandy in 1944.

It was worse than that; although neutral they supplied iron ore to the Nazis throughout WWII.

"We must assume that Bonnie rowed herself to Sweden in a solar-powered corracle."

LOL I'll have to remember that one. It calls to mind how during the 1974 oil crisis John Denver was discovered to have a personal gasoline storage tank on his ranch.

Well, now you know.

Her second album, 'Give It Up' (1972) was dedicated to the people of North Vietnam.

Ronstadt, and now Bonnie Raitt - They used to be a couple of my favorite female singers.

I hope Emmylou Harris has the good sense to keep her mouth shut.

Yes indeed.

The Swedes don't seem to bring that one up much, do they?
