Classified documents in his pants
Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, July 20, 2004 | House Editorial

Bill Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger, is the subject of a criminal investigation for illicitly removing highly classified documents about the 1999 millennium bombing plot and handwritten notes he took from a secure reading room at the National Archives. Some of the classified documents taken by Mr. Berger are still missing. Mr. Berger (who resigned yesterday as a foreign-policy adviser to presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry) was in the Archives last summer and fall preparing, at Mr. Clinton's request, the previous administration's response to questions from the commission investigating the September 11 terrorist attacks. Mr. Berger and his attorney told The Associated Press that he knowingly removed handwritten notes he made by sticking them in his jacket and pants. The FBI searched Mr. Berger's home and office after Archives employees claimed to have seen him place documents in his clothing while he was reading classified Clinton administration papers. Some of the documents were later found to be missing.

Why would a pro like Sandy Berger risk his reputation and career to steal documents?

I have come up with two possible explanations.

He found something very incriminating about the Clintons' handling of terrorism and was sent back there by the Clintons to cleanse the files.
OR
This was an attempt to damage John Kerry. Hillary, the RED QUEEN who has files on everyone, made him do it, and then leaked the info to the press.

Sounds crazy, I know. But with these people, anything is possible.

The latter scenario is far more likely. Hillary! has her sights set on '08, and she's not going to let Kerry get in the way.

Hey, just 'cause we're paranoid, that doesn't mean she isn't out to get us.

So far it seems that the main documents missing are the drafts for the after-action report written by Richard Clarke and later "refined" by the Clinton Administration. I am curious as to why Berger specifically chose to pocket and totally lose those documents. Hmmm...are there signficant differences in conclusion and/or emphasis between the drafts and the final version of the report that Clarke and the Clinton Administration put out? Inquiring minds want to know...Berger doesn't seem like the type of person to just simply make a rash decision and shove questionable documents in his pants, socks, and briefcase. I am sure that he probably deliberated such options prior to going to the National Archives annex in Maryland.

Also, I find it curious that every news source thus far have given out the information that it is "believed" that copies of the draft still exist at the National Archives. Are they getting this information directly from Archives personnel? If so, I think that someone is bluffing. With classified documents, they are either there or not. Especially by this point in time, that information should be confirmed by now. I think that copies of the drafts do not actually exist. Did Berger know this? Inquiring minds want to know...

National Archives annex in Maryland.

I still have the same problem with this. Where is security in an archive of top secret documents? Could you or I just walk in with a briefcase, load up with documents, and walk out without a single challenge by a single guard? Is that how they have it set up? One person could go in there and day by day, literally destroy thousands of documents.

(From a listener)
WABC`s John Batchelor`s regular guest,John Loftus has just reported this evening(July 20) that the documents stolen by Berger would have revealed that bill clinton and the clinton administration hired al-qaeda terrorists to fight for the muslims in Kosovo.

Loftus stated the clinton administration provided documents and facilitated travel for the al-qaeda terrorists from Afghanistan to Kosovo to help the islamists fighting for a foothold back into Europe.

The only time I ever made the trip out to the Archives was to listen to the Nixon tapes with a few of my friends around 4 or 5 months ago. Yes, I had to sign in, get a tag, and had two people assisting us at all times; we were never a lone. The rules are made very clear to anyone who chooses to visit the Archives in Maryland. And the answer to your question is "no", not just anyone can walk in an view classified documents at the Archives. Berger was sent to testify to the Commission and was asked by Clinton to review and select all the documents to be sent to the 9/11 commission. I assume that Berger already had the relevant security clearance to view such documents. Either way, classified information is very carefully tracked by the Archives, which is why the personnel were so apt at locating exactly what was missing. In fact, they are so capable of knowing what they do and do not have, that I have serious doubts as to whether or not copies of the drafts actually exist. We know that copies of the finished report exist, but I want to know why Berger walked off with the drafts. There was a good reason, I am sure.
