Update from Wash Times: A U.S. military spokesman in Tikrit told United Press International that the report was untrue. "Nothing's been found. The report is not factual," said Master Sgt. Robert Cowens, a spokesman for the 1st Infantry Division... A spokesman with Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's office told UPI that the report concerning the alleged missiles and warheads emerged "while gathering information for Saddam Hussein's tribunal" during the interrogation of a captured former official of Saddam's regime.
Al Sabah, the Iraqi newspaper funded by the Coalition Provisional Authority, reports on its front page this morning that a former senior Ba'ath party activist has led coalition troops to three nuclear warheads hidden in a bunker.
Will post translation when we have it.

Here is story in full:
Headline: Khidhur (or Khidhir) al-Douri, back from the dead, reveals three nuclear missiles
Sources in the Interior ministry and the National Security Advisor's Office refused to comment on news reports that three missiles with nuclear warheads had been seized during the arrest of Khidhur al-Douri, the former Ba'ath party member.
Iraqi political sources, who requested anonimity, inisisted that Iraqi security authorities arrested al-Douri and seized the missiles.
The same sources told al-Sabah that al-Douri, who held meany Ba'ath party positions during the former regime, was falsely pronounced dead on its demise. Forged death certificates had been circulated.
He was arrested in an area between Oja and al-Dour, in Salahidine province.
The same sources said three missiles were found with nuclear heads attached in a tunnel six metres underground.
A cement layer six metres thick had been built over the tunnel to hide it from scientific ray detection that could detect the radiation emitted by the nuclear heads.
The tunnel leading to the three missiles is connected to a small hole that opens out on the main road between Ouja and Dour.
The sources said al-Douri was arrested after sending an email, specifying the location and a meeting place in Tikrit.
Authorities analysed the message. Iraqi forces then moved into the area, laying a trap that snared al-Douri and his son.
Al-Douri then revealed the location of the missiles. Various light weapons and money was also seized during the operation.

NO!!! This is good .. it means the terrorists don't have possession of it.
It would be funny but it sounds just like what they would say.
It seems sooooo unlikely this would break in an Iraqi paper first.
Just make sure you haven't inadvertantly left any classified documents in there, if you do.
Geez! I move around these threads slow it seems! LOL I ping those I know to intriguing threads and then realize after I pinged them, they already posted. LOL Ah well. :) The post is very interesting indeed. :)

Well, a few things jump out. First of all, there are what, hundreds of papers in Iraq? Most of them seem to be sensational conspiracy rags with less truth than the Weekly World News or a Michael Moore movie. This paper, however, seems rather simple and non-sensational; just the facts, maam. Secondly, the paper is not reporting this nuke story to be true or that the Iraqi government is saying it's true, but that "sources in the Interior ministry...refused to comment on news reports..." On the other hand, if it were just a wild, unfounded rumor one would think they would say there is no truth to the rumor...
Saddam was trying to obtain weapons of mass destruction.
If a person TRIES to hire a hitman, they are still tried for attempted murder even if the hitman never takes the job.

The WMD will be found whether buried in the desert or in Syria/Lebanon. I think the Bush Administration, and in particular the Blair Admin, is making a big mistake moving away from this. The above about the location of the WMD is supported by comments made by Israel's top IDF general a few months ago.
Doesn't count. They're untested and unproven. Besides your not suggesting these are WMD in the same sense as the WMD George Bush has in his socks, are you? </end 'rat spinning>
I want to thank you for sharing the translation. I have already sent out links to this news thread. If the story is correct (as they present it), then this is really big.
Is this the same paper online?>

Eactly. Even if he didn't have WMD, which I doubt, Saddam was a dictator with the intention of pursuing WMD.
well, maybe not:
"The return of U.N. inspectors to Iraq is an urgent necessity; not to search for weapons of mass destruction, but to write the final report about the nonexistence of (such) weapons ... in Iraq, which will enable the lifting of sanctions," ElBaradei said in Cairo.
And here we get to the crux of the issue; the Iraqi people need sanctions lifted a lot more than Bush needs a confirmation of the existence of WMDs. If this were Clinton, the needs of Iraqis would be secondary if they were of import at all when it comes to getting reelected.
And the Democrats all along knew that the sanctions had to be lifted in order to insure Iraq got back on her feet and they knew what political as well as material and bloody sacrifice it would take to get this done. They knew very well- because they have been briefed all along- that the Bush admin couldn't protect itself from their political attacks of "no wmd" by presenting our real finds without screwing Iraqis's chances of getting the UN to officially lift sanctions. The rats took advantage of this necessity, knowing that success in Iraq depended on it, and knowing that Bush could not and would not waver and respond no matter the damage they did. The huge quantities of precursors stored in military bases had to be called mere pesticides, the shells had to be called old and dated pre-gulf war; the missile findings had to be ignored, the findings of the Poles had to be discounted, the Jordanian plot buried, the European ricin plot obscured, the anthrax/al Ani story had to go nowhere, the Niger story reduced to a mere attempt to acquire, the Libya/Qadeer Khan stories had to be scrubbed of their references to the Iraq and left at best with a reference to a "fifth nation" ; the labs called mere hydrogen balloon factories though no one would put their name to that claim; Hatfill had to be followed around in circles, and Kay's talk of Iraq's innovative anthrax production pretty much buried. It's all been out there in whizzing in our faces though the press keeps telling us it's just raining.
But it not the huge stockpiles we were led to believe existed by the lying neo-con.
"The WMD's are half-finished, because he realized that the money would be better spent feeding the women and children. He made a simple mistake, and now the Republicans are politicizing it to their advantage. How many men of good character are they going to destroy?"
